I got an email bcc'ed to me today from e14userx@gmail.com claiming to be from Newark/Element14 offering a $35 Amazon gift card if I would click on the link provided and take a 40 minute customer survey.  Ha ha ha.  This IS a fake phising scam, right, E14 admin?

Yes, this is legitimate. I too was initially concerned by the use of the Gmail address, but I validated the URL and was happy to participate. There are 56 questions and it will take 45 minutes of your time. It's an interesting test but you have to keep speaking because your mouse movements and voice are recorded. You are presented with different websites and have to complete different tasks and explain what you like/don't like etc. As someone who conducts usability tests it was interesting to be a participant. I did the test yesterday and received my $35 Amazon gift voucher this morning.

    Thank you.

    Hi Christer,

Premier Farnell is emailing customers who registered their interest a link to where they can order using a credit card. As there were a lot of people who registered interest, these email messages are being sent out in batches over time. I have no reason to doubt Eben, but I recommend waiting for the email from Premier Farnell to place your order.

    Sincerely,

    Christy

Is there any way to close my account on here as I don't really appreciate being spammed with messages intended for US account holders only. All accounts have a country registered with them, as the $35 offer was US only, why do us in the UK have to have the spam telling people it is genuine? Not to mention the insult that we don't get the offer in the first place.

I am registered in the UK, and haven't received any message about this 'survey'... mind you I would certainly appreciate being offered a voucher just for answering a few questions!

For what its worth, I tried several times to take the survey and never got it to work before the deadline.  Not only did these peoople use a new gmail account to send out the notice, they didn't get the Javascript set up right for all browsers or something.

Hi all - I know some of you were disappointed that you weren't part of the original group of members asked to participate in this research survey.  We were only able to ask a very small group of randomly selected members to respond to the survey.  We're very sorry for anyone who felt left out after seeing the announcement on the home page.  This wasn't our intention at all and want you all to feel welcome here image

This won't be the last time we ask you all for your feedback, so anyone who would like to be considered for future research surveys just send your name and email address with subject "Research Participant" to CommunityManager@element14.com.

    Thanks!
