Raspberry Pi B+ wi-fi slowdown

SO I boot my pi, and ping the wireless router (gateway).  I get nice times of 10s and no drops.

 

After a while, using SSH it starts dropping packets and the ping to the gateway gets up to 1000ms.  A reboot fixes it for awhile.

 

Its not open to the outside world.  Processor shows low usage.

 

Using an EDIMAX wifi dongle.

    Problem with WIFI, cell phones and cordless phones is that they all use 2.4 gigahertz radio frequencies, and so do wifi cameras. One of the things you can do is to use the utility feature of your PC's wifi card and identify which of the 11 channels is most subject to noise, or over usage by your neighboring wifi signals and steer clear of those channels. You can assign a specific wifi channel for your use and cut down on the interference from ell and cordless devices etc. Wifi normally operates in half duplex mode, however you can select full duplex to do simultaneous two-way transmission between your devices. You can prove Wifi interference by testing your times against a hardwire connection between devices on the ethernet interface directly or using your wifi utility features for scanning for signals. Another way to improve your signal is instead of using wireless nbg, try just the wireless a radio which is rarely used by default anymore. It's a 5gigahertz radio frequency which avoids the older cordless phone and router frequencies. Most of todays wifi routers are dual band (nbg, and a) so you can isolate your frequency interference relatively easy. Hope this helps. Michael
