i had to reinstall  after it crashed trying to do apt-get upgrade and after that i put sd card in power on and nothing happens red light stays on with a blinking green light as well any assistance with figuring out why the touchscreen wont turn on plus fixing the apt upgrade issue, im aware i have to install the complete version before initiating the upgrade command but when i run that command it says theres no version in the repository... ?

try sudo apt-get update after after complete sudo apt-get upgrade

    or

sudo apt update after after complete sudo apt upgrade

I have noticed if you don't do an update before an upgrade you experience the error you are seeing. I gave you both version because the trend is to use just apt and move away from apt-get.

There's a few things wrong with the wiring. You followed the wiring for a PI2 not a Pi4.  You likely pick it up off the element14 product page. Shame on element14 for letting 5 year outdated information on their site.

I've attached a pic from my broken iphone of the wiringimage

in that image are you trying to show the correct way to wire the raspberry pi 4b to the 7 inch touch screen and you were correct on assuming that i got the wiring diagram from element 14 but its extremely hard to see the setup in the picture you sent me if you can elaborate more?

You... don't need the jumper wires.... except for the red and black ones...

I mean technically you could just use the red one and not even use the black one.

Unplug the green and yellow ones from the board. It may be because the FAN SHIM is using those pins.

Also hold your DSI cable to the light to see if there are any cracks in the line. If so it's probably broken and you'll need to replace/

The pinout on all raspberry Pi's are the same.

26 pin headers are the same just with 14 additional pins on the standard 40pin GPIO.

It probably isn't an issue with the DSI since it looks good but maybe your SD card needs to be re-formatted and re-flashed since it crashed.

"I mean technically you could just use the red one and not even use the black one."

Are you saying the power return voltage should find it's own way back ? maybe through screws and signal ground  which a both inappropriate for power.
