Programming with GenLogic GLG Toolbox YouTube Channel

dfansler
dfansler over 1 year ago

Greetings to all. I have just started a new YouTube channel "GenLogic GLG Toolkit". If you are not familiar with this software, and need to show data in a professional manner, please take a look at Lesson 1. GLG is used by a number of high-end tech companies for aviation, plant process control, and mapping to name a few. But while high-tech companies have to pay for the GLG Toolkit, there is a free version available.

The channel uses a Raspberry Pi 4 running the 64bit version of Bookwor.

I am not affiliated with GenLogic, it is simply a really cool piece of software that I have used on a number of projects, from a sailboat touch screen power control display, to my underwater ROV.

Kind regards,
David

I had a quick look (I'm always looking for replacements for VB6 !):

But this looks very 1995 !

    image

Even their own website looks last century !

And it costs lots of money !

    YMMV !

I saw the site and unfortunately just immediately navigated away!

Regardless of if it is a good or bad product, there's so many thoughts that go through the mind when seeing a page like that.. for instance, has the product not been updated in 30 years either! Is it a one-man project that might not offer a lot of support, if they have not had time to invest or update the website.

dfansler Does GLG need the apache2 web server?  I will not be putting this on a PI as I have 3 or 4 machines minus the public webserver. I am currently installing OpenBSD in a new box to runs as my firewall (pf) and Ethernet Switching.  Why pf? it's much better than Linux chains (faster, stately, etc). In real-time I can take an  IP from my server (an app) and send it to the firewall' 'block list' and no reboot.

Big Clive's website seems to have remained the same since the late 1990's too https://www.bigclive.com/

That was one of the first engineering websites I came across, surfing the information highway!

The GLG Community Toolkit is FREE.  The lessons I am creating are based on the GLG Community Toolkit.  As the old saying goes "Never judge a book by its cover".

    Kind regards,

    Hi David,

Just came across the GLG Toolkit and your videos.  How are you making out with your project(s)?

I'm just getting started with it - the goal is to develop an HMI with process simulation - utilizing an Arduino to exchange analog and digital signals with a vintage process control computer.

    Thoughts / ideas / suggestions?

    Jason
