Windows Applications on Raspberry Pi 2

We are the developers of WTware - thin clients operating system. This year we released new free version for Raspberry Pi 2. It makes connections to Terminal Server with Windows Server OS installed and so you can use Windows Applications on Pi 2. Please, try it: http://winterminal.com

    Good day.

    WTware is needed when you want to use your Raspberry as Windows-computer (as thin client, connecting to server and showing images from it, but it looks like ordinary Windows-computer).

    Word 'buying' is related to Pi 2 buying. Word 'license' is for our users of our ordinary, x86 WTware version. WTware for Pi 2 is absolutely free.

    Let me edit your words, please:

    ...that for newcomers that still want to make use of the Raspbian fully and occasionally need to see their Windows desktop (think it will

    be rare in a home environment, but there could be uses) it is probably best to continue using Raspbian...

    That's absolutely true I guess.

    WTware is for Windows Desktop. For those, who want only Windows Desktop, WTware has two benefits:

    1. No "sudo apt-get install" magic required. You don't have to know anything at all about Raspbian to use it.

    2. WTware is much more like Windows Desktop. No Linuxism on the screen. It's more Windows Desktop than mstsc.exe on Windows, because Ctrl-Alt-Del works image

    Hi!

    Perhaps yours is more suited for automated deployment of multiple Raspberry Pi 2's in a large environment or similar - I have no idea.

    Your website uses the words' 'buying' and 'license' in a few places so I'm guessing it is for larger deployments, not home users.

    However, worth mentioning that for a one-off machine (e.g. a home user), rdesktop would be easier, so people can continue to use the Linux build for which they have vast

    crowdsourced online support, and can continue to use the RPI for other uses too, not just a thin client.

    Not that I've tried it on the Pi 2, but I'm guessing it is along the lines of these two commands:

    sudo apt-get install rdesktop

    rdesktop <<ip address of windows machine>>

    Not being negative at all about your project, just wanted to highlight that for newcomers that still want to make use of the RPI fully and occasionally need to see their Windows desktop (think it will

    be rare in a home environment, but there could be uses) it is probably best to continue using Raspbian - and it will work with all Raspberry Pi's, not just the Pi 2.

    WTware for Raspberry Pi 2
    pi wizard

    WTware for Raspberry Pi 2 can boot from local SD-card or by network. In both cases you need microSD card. Even for network boot microSD is still needed: there's no flash with BIOS on board, and code, that will load boot images by network, is stored on microSD.

    1. Download and install WTware for Raspberry Pi 2 on server.
    2. Run on server WTware graphic configurator, press button Create SD card and create SD card for local or network boot using WTware wizard:

      pi wizard
    3. Insert card into Raspberry Pi 2.
    4. If you don't use WTware DHCP service and want to boot by network, specify in DHCP 067 parameter: 5.4.10\kernel7.img
    5. Turn Raspberry Pi 2 on.

    Configuration files structure is the same as in WTware for all devices. You can use graphic configurator, just remember, that half of parameters are not supported yet.

    Monitor resolution for Pi is stored in config.txt file on SD card, not in WTware configuration files. On Raspberry Pi 2 manufacturer site you can find all settings for config.txt file. By default Raspberry Pi 2 sets 1920x1080 resolution.

    Raspberry Pi 2 was tested with old cheap 18.5" Philips 191V monitor connected by HDMI-DVI cable in it's standart resolution 1366x768. If Pi 2 works with such device in such resolution, then it should work with most other digital (HDMI and DVI) monitors in other resolutions. For 1366x768 resolution by HDMI-DVI cable these two lines must be specified:

    hdmi_group=2
    hdmi_mode=81

    Sound, FAT32/exFAT/NTFS disks, printers, scanners, USB-COM ports redirection work now.

    WTware for Raspberry Pi 2 performance is sufficient for performing office tasks.

    Build does not need license and draws no banner. It's free.
