Why I Want You To RoadTest the NXP QN9090 Development Platform

I don't roadtest every product that comes across my desktop, in my email, or during the meetings I attend with our sponsors. I discuss, pick, and choose interesting products, those that I think merit attention, or ones that I feel are very important to you, your careers, and the electronics industry as a whole. I happened to read about the NXP QN9090 development platform last week, and I thought this product really merited roadtesting; I felt it would be a useful tool for our electronic design engineers to know about. Let me tell you a few facts about the QN9090 development platform, along with some resources for further study and evaluation. Tell me what you think about it.image

 

About The QN9090 development platform

The QN9090 development platform, the QN9090DK, comes with an integrated programmer and debugger along with suite of example applications showcasing standard GATT profiles in a complete software development kit (SDK). It is designed to make it as easy as possible to get started with your project based on NXPRegistered QN9090/30 (T) Bluetooth Low Energy SOC with optional NFC technology.

 

It features the QN9090 and QN9030, which are the latest microcontrollers in the QN series of Bluetooth low energy devices that achieve ultra-low-power consumption and integrate an ArmRegisteredCortexRegistered-M4 CPU with a comprehensive mix of analog and digital peripherals. With support for up to 640KB onboard flash and 152 KB SRAM, the memory integration provides room and flexibility for complex applications and safe Over-the-Air (OTA) updates. QN series devices have a rich set of MCU peripherals including multiple serial communication interfaces.

 

Within the QN series the QN9090T and QN9030T integrate NFC NTAG to support use cases such as out-of-band pairing. By tapping a device based on the QN9090T with an NFC reader device, such as a smart phone or tablet, a Bluetooth LE connection can be established quickly simplifying the pairing process.

 

Here are some specs:

  • Wireless MCU: Module site for QN9090 (T) Bluetooth LE 5.0 MCU with NFC NTAG
  • NFC: PCB antenna for NFC Tag
  • Debug: On-board, high-speed USB based, Link2 debug probe with ARM’s CMSIS-DAP and SEGGER J-Link protocol options.
  • Extensibility: Expansion options based on Arduino R3, plus additional expansion port pins
  • User Interface: Power, Reset, ISP and UART Tx/Rx status LEDs. Target Reset, and User buttons.
  • Power Supply: On-board 3.3V from USB port, 4xAAA batteries, 2xAAA batteries (low-power mode) or external power supply options.Built-in power consumption measurement
  • External Memory: 8Mb Macronix MX25R QSPI flash.

 

Typical Applications include:

  • Bluetooth Low Energy 5.0 networks
  • Robust and secure Low-power wireless applications
  • Lighting and Home automation
  • Toys and gaming peripherals
  • Energy harvesting, for example self-powered light switch

    Yes please. NXP are bringing out some interesting products of late. This may well be a worthy alternative to Nordic's nrf82540, which also has NFC tag capability built-in.

    Interesting chip.

    I use LPC55S69 xpresso recently. NXP new chip is great.
