Test du PicKit3 debug express

Bonjour,

J'ai eu l'occasion de tester le Pic Kit 3 debug express (ref microchip: DC164131). Ce kit est livré avec:
- 1 PICkit 3 In-Circuit Debugger
- Un petit board d'essais avec un PIC18F45K20-I/MLPIC18F45K20-I/ML
- Cd,  logiciel, cours d'exemple, ...

Le PicKit 3 permet la programmation et le débogage d'application directement sur la carte.

Comparé au PicKit 2, le système et sa présentation est identique, seule la couleur change. Pour la majorité des microcontrôleurs, nous avons simplement besoins d'un header6 sur la carte (Pin : VDD, GND, MCLR, 2 pin de programmation). On trouve aisément un adaptateur convertissant le Header 6 et RJ11 pour les cartes compatibles avec l'ICD2/3

Le nombre de mcu compatibles avec ce nouveau debugger est supérieur vis-à-vis de son prédécesseur. On retrouve ainsi la famille PIC32, de nouvelle référence dans les PIC24 et dsPic.


En pratique:

La programmation est ultra rapide. L'utilisation est très simple. Il permet de debugging en plaçant quelques breakpoints dans le code (nombre limités). Permet l'avance au pas à pas, lire l'état des registres, ... L'intégration des broches de programmations est très simple et compact (comparé à ce qui est nécessaire chez certains concurrents comme TI).

Il m'a fallu un certain temps pour m'adapter à ce programmateur. Ce programmateur étant compatible avec les circuits fonctionnant à très basse tension, il demande de configurer manuellement la tension d'alimentation (si doit être fournie par le PK3). Cette configuration doit être réinscrite à chaque nouvelle utilisation. Chose assez étonnante, MPLab affiche régulièrement une invitation à vérifier la tension demandée. Une simple vérification software entre la puce détectée sur le circuit et la tension maximum qu'elle tolère suffirait pour ne pas devoir avertir quand ce n'est pas nécessaire.
Le PK2 a cet avantage de gérer automatiquement le mode d'alimentation, mais ne supporte pas les très basses tensions.


Conclusions:

Que dire de plus? J'apprécie particulièrement les pics, ils sont très simple à mettre en place, et dans le cadre de mes applications sont suffisamment performants. Le PicKit3 est un outil parfait à avoir sous la main pour développer des applications. Il est compatible avec une très bonne quantité de Pics, il coute une trentaine d'euro et est très fiable.

    The programming is quick extremist.  The usage is very simple.  It allows debugging while placing some breakpoints in the code (limited numbers).  Allows advances it to the step to not, read the register state,...  The integration of the pegs of programming is very simple and compact (compared to what is necessary with certain competitors as TI).

    It is necessary for me a certain time to adapt me to this program planner.  This program planner being compatible with the circuits working to very low tension, it asks to configure manuellement the tension of nutrition (if must be furnished by the PK3).  This configuration must be reenrolled to new every usage.  Thing enough astonishing, MPLab uniformly posts an invitation to verify required tension.  A simple verification software between the detected flea on the circuit and tension maximum that she tolerates would suffice in order not to to have to warn when this is not necessary.  The PK2 has this advantage of to manage automatically the method of nutrition, but does not bear the very low tensions.

    Conclusions:

    What to say of more?  I appreciate particularly the peaks, they are very simple to set up, and in the framework of my applications are sufficiently performance.  The PicKit3 is a perfect tool to have under the hand to develop applications.  It is compatible with a very good quantity of Peaks, it coute about thirty Euros and is very reliable.
