Here are the people who have sent me their details so far; I have still got the other 6 to get, but I’ll hopefully have these in the mail this week.

Harry Eakins

There are 5 people still to contact me with postal details, so I have a question for the group. Do you think there should be a time limit on claiming the kits? I know some people may have registered with a “spam” email account, so they will not have received the notification. Do we give them a week, a month or an indefinite time? I’d like to give as many people as possible the chance to test the kits, and obviously I couldn’t implement a new rule for this RoadTest. So I wondered what you think should be the rules for future tests?

3 weeks seems a good number to me.

It may well be there isn't a right number for all roadtests -

if you are very well subscribed it is probably less important to wait for every last response.

I think in future I'll make it between 2-3 weeks taking the time of year into account. I'll decide on a date when I send the email out. "to claim this kit you must respond before XX May etc"

    Hi,

Even though i have already declared what i was thinking of this topic, i would like to repeat it here again, at most one month is very fair enough. But, you are the one making the offer. You are the one ruling this group. You are the one choosing the winner(s). You are the one for this group. So, whatever you decide will be well accpeted by us.

But i want to add a new argument while this one has not finished yet. A winner must be responsible to write a review after getting his/her gift item before a given time to publish his/her review. So, this will ensure that the person chosen is the right person and the gift is at the right place. If no review is published then that person will not be eligible for the next offer.

    This is my opinion.

    Best regards,

    Firat Kocak

    Hey Firat,

A couple of good points there, but not necessarily totally correct. I did set the group up, but it is a community, and I'd rather let the community itself define rules that the participants are happy with, rather than imposing rules. Even though I set up this group, anyone can post a Roadtest. My vision for the group initially was I'd set up some tests and kick the group off, and then suppliers and participants could offer RoadTests of their own products.

I have had interest from suppliers to run offers, but at the moment they prefer me to run the tests, so I guess you lot are stuck with me a bit longer image. Keep an eye on the group after Christmas as I have quite a few more interesting offers to run.

I like your suggestion about giving kit to the people who write reviews. It's something I have discussed before but not implemented as I'd like as many people to participate as possible. But perhaps you are right and it should be implemented now the group is running OK and we have almost 100 members.

Just as an update to current offers.

The two NanoBoard 3000s will be posted out before Christmas by Altium.

The Altera Nios, I hope to send tomorrow,

Microchip PicKit, Euro/Asia ones should be sent tomorrow. North America will send after new Year when new stock arrives (apologies).

Freescale. I'm organizing at the moment. When I get the list of addresses they should be posted quite quickly from the US.

    Hi Alistair,

I know what your real intention by making offers is. And i really appreciate it. In the mean time, i will always be stuck with you in pleasure image. I will be waiting for the next years offers. But at first, i will test the new gift in detail and provide others some reviews on it.

Some note about the rules : Rules are needed to keep an organization ( a group, a company, a state , a country and so on ) working. There may be some rules we like and some we do not. But a rule is there because it is necessary. Some rules may be changed ( they can be argued as you have already done here ), but some are mandatory and stay as they are. And there should be someone else to place and update the rules. what i am trying is to indicate this.

    Best regards,

    Firat Kocak

    Hi,

I think there may be added some other rules for attendance and winner selection. If a user attends an offer and wins a gift offered, he/she should write a review, as discussed previously. And this review should be rated by the group users. This will help understanding of how much well the review is written and how much it is helpfull. So, if a review has low rating then the winner should not be aligible for some time. This is needed to give the gifts as much as different peoples in the group. Even though i would like to be a winner in every offer, in fact, i prefer more and different users have a chance to win. If needed, i should wait for some time, more, i may not be eligible.

I am so much sure that Alistair is trying to do his best while chosing the winners. But rules are good.

    Just an idea ....

    Best regards,

    Firat Kocak

    Hi Firat,

Those are good ideas, but very hard to implement. I'm not sure how people would rate a review, especially those who hadn't used the product. If there are any omissions in the review, or further aspects to discuss then there would be a chance to ask the questions and get replies.

Also there is resources, at the moment I am the only person keeping track of winners, addresses, competitions and postage, it would take even more of my time to keep an up to date "embargo" list. I say we just run with what we have at tha moment and see how things turn out.

    Harry,

That's a good idea for a number of reasons. And yeah, it would be good to know that a dev kit would go to an embedded engineer as opposed to say a power engineer. It would also be easier to find people with the same interests. The other attraction is that some suppliers want the kits send out geographically, so they will supply ten kits to the US and ten to Eurasia (this actually happened with Microchip PicKit 3 bundles). Fortunately teh geography is pretty even on the group at the moment. On the other hand it would be good to know how beginner friendly these kits are as well!
