I was wondering how does one get selected to participate in the road test? Is it random or the first, say 20 people who click attend?..etc?

    Regards,

    Carson Au

The selection process varies; it depends largely on the amount of RoadTest product on hand; sometimes we get only a handful and sometimes much more. The process is not random, nor does it place undue emphasis on being first in line (although signing up early does show enthusiasm and that helps). Since we are looking for reviews of the RoadTest products, consistently posting reviews--and thorough reviews--is probably the best way of ensuring that you will be strongly considered.

By the way, the TDK Lambda power supply event is now live, so take a look and let us know if you are interested.

Oh, thanks for the info... thats nice to know... really thought the selection would be based on random.

Kind of hard to post reviews for products you cant put your hands on and to get the status "strongly considered" then.

We use some of the EvalKits and Devices anyways... but I am not sure if the contents you give out for the roadtests are identical to those delivered by manufacturer directly... would be nice to know...

    Christian,

Sorry I think there is maybe a little bit of confusion. RoadTests are random at this time. We had an earlier thread in the group discussing if there should be "penalties" for people who have received kits and not reviewed, say for example, banned from further receiving kits for two months. There has been no decision made as yet as to whether this will be implemented, or when. We'd rather run the tests as they are for the moment and see what response we get. If people don't come back with reviews and contribute to the community then we will look at the situation again. We think that's fair, and gives everyone a chance. If we were to implement anything like this, we would tell you beforehand.

Also as for your other question. The kits are almost always the same as the manufacturers. The only exception I can think of is the Microchip PICkit 3 promotion, which as far as I know is a proprietary bundle.

    Hello Alistair,

thanks for your answer. Clears things up a bit image

Also nice to know that the kits are (mostly) identical. This way we might be able to bring in some experiences even without winning the kits on this site.

    Christian

I should add, that the PicKit 3 XLP kit I mentioned before is a bundle comprising two commercially available kits; the PICKit Debug Express 3 and the PIC18F46J50 FS USB Demo Board
