Help us select RoadTest kits

Hi,

We'd like to hear your thoughts on dev kits in the market just now. What  kits interest you, or would you maybe like to see on future RoadTests?  Are there any other type of products you'd like to see on RoadTest?  (before anyone suggests, there's no chance of an iPad appearing in the  near term future image )

To get the conversation started we've pasted 9 possible kits below. Tell  us which of these interest you the most and why? As a disclaimer, I'm  not promising to give away the most popular, but we'll certainly talk to  the manufacturers and your views will help us greatly!


1. National Semiconductor’s LM26420 evaluation board demonstrates the  company's LM26420 based solution.

2. International Rectifier's IRS2540 IRS2540/1 buck converter based  development board helps develop HB-LED applications

3. ST's STM3210E-SK/HT helps start development for the company's ARM  core-based microcontrollers.

4. Maxim's MAX9830A evaluation kit uses a filterless class D amplifier to  drive a mono bridge-tied-load speaker.

5. Matrix Multimedia's EB018 E-blocks CAN bus board allows investigation  of the CAN bus protocol.

6. Avago's HFBR-0410HFBR-0410 fiber optics evaluation kit allows first hand  experience with simple DC to 5MBd TTL compatible components.

7. Freescale's RD1986MMA2260DRD1986MMA2260D TRIAX 3-axis acceleration sensing demo  board combines demos available for accelerometer applications.

8. Microchip’s DM183026 mTouch capacitive evaluation kit helps develop  touch sense applications using PIC16F or PIC24F MCUs.

9. Innovate Software Solutions Hawkboard is an open community board with a  feature set based on the TI OMAP L138 processor.

    i would love to ge my hands on anything from microchip as I am learning programing these at the moment.

    I already have the STM32 Primer2 development tool, very interesting platform.

    Any other FPGA boards are welcome.

    Kits 7 (Freescale accelerometer) and 8 (Microchip mTouch) seem very interesting, and would provide a learning tool with a new product area for me and most likely others in this group.  Thank you for all your effort!

    surely my favourite options are :

    2, International  Rectifier's IRS2540 IRS2540/1 buck converter based  development board  helps develop HB-LED applications

    because field of DCDC conveter is rapidly growing and there are lots of different good product especially from IR but also the

    high brightness LED field is a very interesting application

    is very interesting because i have already use Beagle Board from TI and I think tha OMAP is an amazing microcontroller but at the same

    time I think Hawkboardis better than Beagle especially for the high number of peripheric like LAN, etc,,,

    because both seem to enable real hands-on experience, running your own code and 
    not just canned demos supplied with the board.

    It should be interesting to test open-source tools on these boards, aside from 
    the vendor-supplied windows stuff - from a first glance, gcc + OpenOCD might support both.

    Touch screen apps seem to trickle down into every application these days, so it would be interesting to get our hands on an implementation from a supplier that delivers affordable ucontrollers with it.

  • For sure my first choice is number 3, ST's STM3210E-SK/HT.

    But I think that also number 9 (Innovate Software Solutions Hawkboard) is really interesting!

    Presently developing consumer devices with the STM32F101 (also various AVR's, and SiLabs 8051's).

    The STM32 primer2 has been very fun to experiment with - it would be interesting to test a different kit.
