Help us select RoadTest kits

Hi,

We'd like to hear your thoughts on dev kits in the market just now. What  kits interest you, or would you maybe like to see on future RoadTests?  Are there any other type of products you'd like to see on RoadTest?  (before anyone suggests, there's no chance of an iPad appearing in the  near term future image )

To get the conversation started we've pasted 9 possible kits below. Tell  us which of these interest you the most and why? As a disclaimer, I'm  not promising to give away the most popular, but we'll certainly talk to  the manufacturers and your views will help us greatly!

1. National Semiconductor’s LM26420 evaluation board demonstrates the  company's LM26420 based solution.

2. International Rectifier's IRS2540 IRS2540/1 buck converter based  development board helps develop HB-LED applications

3. ST's STM3210E-SK/HT helps start development for the company's ARM  core-based microcontrollers.

4. Maxim's MAX9830A evaluation kit uses a filterless class D amplifier to  drive a mono bridge-tied-load speaker.

5. Matrix Multimedia's EB018 E-blocks CAN bus board allows investigation  of the CAN bus protocol.

6. Avago's HFBR-0410HFBR-0410 fiber optics evaluation kit allows first hand  experience with simple DC to 5MBd TTL compatible components.

7. Freescale's RD1986MMA2260DRD1986MMA2260D TRIAX 3-axis acceleration sensing demo  board combines demos available for accelerometer applications.

8. Microchip’s DM183026 mTouch capacitive evaluation kit helps develop  touch sense applications using PIC16F or PIC24F MCUs.

9. Innovate Software Solutions Hawkboard is an open community board with a  feature set based on the TI OMAP L138 processor.

    Hi all.
    My two votes are for:
    9. Innovate Software Solutions Hawkboard is an open community board with a  feature set based on the TI OMAP L138 processor.
    5. Matrix Multimedia's EB018 E-blocks CAN bus board allows investigation  of the CAN bus protocol.
As stated by others before, any FPGA development kit would be welcome.
    Regards.

    I'd suggest

    8. Microchip’s  DM183026 mTouch capacitive evaluation kit helps develop  touch sense  applications using PIC16F or PIC24F MCUs.

...because touch interfaces are becoming almost mandatory and expected by consumers. Would be great to try this out in an informal way.

    9. Innovate Software  Solutions Hawkboard is an open community board with a  feature set based  on the TI OMAP L138 processor.

...because it's a nice concept and a good processor. Should be interesting to try this out in various embedded applications.

    7. Freescale's  RD1986MMA2260DRD1986MMA2260D TRIAX 3-axis acceleration sensing demo  board combines  demos available for accelerometer applications.

...because sensors are hot and accelerometers enable a lot of itneresting consumer applications when used in everyday devices.

    Hi Alistair,

From the developments tools you refered i think that these are the most interesting:

    3. ST's STM3210E-SK/HT helps start development for the company's ARM  core-based microcontrollers.

    8. Microchip’s DM183026 mTouch capacitive evaluation kit helps develop  touch sense applications using PIC16F or PIC24F MCUs.

    Hi Alistair,

    My preference would be as follows;

1.) IT's IRS2540 buck convertor development board for HB LED application, to be tried on outdoor LED display for public displays. I do see any of TDK units coming in for trial.

2.) Maxim's MAX3210E-SK/HT eval kit for Class D amplifier, 2W output for my hobby projects.

3.) LM26420 Eval board for dual output supply unit.

    Hi Alistair,

I'd love to try out the Innovate Software Solutions Hawkboard. I think the OMAP L138 in combination with the open community will provide a great starting point to learn about DSP video processing.

    Hi Alistair,

I am interested in the following Kits:

    5. Matrix Multimedia's EB018 E-blocks CAN  bus board allows investigation  of the CAN bus protocol

because I am already using Flowcode 4 for PIC development. It is a quite very useful Platform which generates quickly good results.

    and:

    8. Microchip’s DM183026 mTouch capacitive  evaluation kit helps develop  touch sense applications using PIC16F or  PIC24F MCUs.

because it is a nice Kit  for capacitive application testing.

    9. Innovate Software Solutions Hawkboard is an  open community board with a  feature set based on the TI OMAP L138  processor.

because an open community projects such as this board is a good way to spread and share knowledge to and with a wide interesting group.

    Have nice day!

    Chris

For power supplies, rather than the LM26420 board, I would like to get my hands on a TI REG710-33 or REG711-33 test board. They might not be as new and shiny as the LM26420 but there are not many other devices claiming to produce a stable 3V3 from a supply that wobbles between 1V8 and 5V5.

However, the thing I would most like to road test would be a USB PC-based mixed-mode oscilloscope. Any chance of doing a road test of a BitScope 325U? One of those would be lovely image

    Thanks,
    John.

    Hello,

The Hawkboard really gets my interest due to its power, flexibility and the fact I've been wanting to play with the OMAP-L138! Coming a close second the STM3210E-SK/HT sounds quite intriguing.

    Regards,

    Al

Thanks very much for your responses, and I hope you had a great Easter break. There were some quite surprising responses. If FPGAs were included, they would have tied with IR, and I suspect if included they would have had even more votes.I think it shows how much they have moved into the mainstream of design now.

    Hi,

    Thanks for asking.

    These would be my choices:

    8. Microchip’s DM183026 mTouch capacitive  evaluation kit helps develop  touch sense applications using PIC16F or  PIC24F MCUs.

Anything from Microchip would be welcome.

    7. Freescale's RD1986MMA2260DRD1986MMA2260D TRIAX  3-axis acceleration sensing demo  board combines demos available for  accelerometer applications.

In general, sensor applications, cheap and versatile human interfaces are in my interest.

    Regards,

    George
