Several members of this group suggested the hawkboard as a roadtest candidate.
Since I have just bought one I can give my first impressions.
What you get is the board and the cardboard box - no disc, no documentation (none at all !!!!!!!).
The board design looks OK but beware quality - mine has a tombstoned capacitor (C108) near the VGA connector - its pretty obvious so it means that the board was not optically inspected after assembly which is worrying. This cap is connected to a pin called "comp" on the LCD/VGA video controller.
I don't know if the VGA/LCD works because:
You have to go and trawl on the web for any information at all and there is very little user experience. I found no reference to step by step how to connect an LCD display, a SATA drive etc.
There is no obvious way of making the board do anything much. It has some kind of linux loaded but it isn't easy to work out what from the stuff on the web. If you connect a terminal via the RS232 port it boots up a linux - no doubt if you are expert with this the mass of start up info will mean something to you. My next step is to connect a hard drive because it seems to try and make the SATA port work. It is not obvious to me that it has any video drivers.
So my first impression is potentially nice board but....................
without a proper manual and instructions it's not much use - I don't have time or inclination to reverse engineer what should come with it.
If any one has got further I would be very pleased to hear from them.
