Some changes to RoadTest

awinning
awinning over 15 years ago

Hi,

Tonight element14 will be upgraded to a newer version of the platform we use. This change gives us the the chance to improve the way we organise RoadTest. I was at a presentation of the new features last night, so I thought I'd pass them on.

The current change is to do with entry to RoadTests. Now we have events, which confuse people as they think that it is a physical event. This was the only way I could figure out how to manage tests when I started the group. From tomorrow, there will be a RoadTest tab next to discussions, documents and events. In that tab there is a drop down menu which will let you navigate to the particular test you are applying for. There you will find a button which lets you apply for the test. You will have to complete a form..name, address etc, which then you can then save to your profile (as private) so the next time the form will be filled in automatically.

I think that's the basics of it. The first test using the new system will be tomorrow with the ADI RF kit. Do me a favour and try give it a go and let me know what you think here? I think the first time you apply will take a little longer, but after that it should be just as easy as now.

The benefits this change will bring are that I don't need to send a pm to each winner for addresses and then copy and paste into a spreadsheet manually (you can imagine how "fun" that was for me when I had to do 50 for one test, and how excited I was when one Product Manager here offered me 200 dev kits image). After the draw I can go onto the entry page, which looks like it does now, and tick the testers. Anyone can see that page and the testers automatically. The entries will be in a form, which means I don't have to wait 2 - 3 weeks to get addresses from testers, and you get the kits much quicker image.

    Just waiting for that tab!

I didn't imagine that the road-test job was done so... manually.

    Hard work but good job.

When I only try to think that we all asked you about the packages, shipping, tracking ... .

Thanks for the kind words guys! image

Just to let you know that the update was postponed till tonight!

Danteo, yeah, it was totally manual! I should have taken a picture of my desk three weeks ago. It was almost hidden by dev kits!

Gordon, Posting lists of winners is probablt the most manual part of the process. I've been trying to get a list together over the last couple of weeks..

Hi Inigo, yes we want to only allow one enrollment. For now I will delete your duplicate. If you open up your existing enrollment do you not see a delete option to remove your own enrollment? If not, we'll get an option in so you can "unenroll" if you need to.

    Thanks,
    Christy

    Hi Nic,

I'm sorry you're experiencing difficulty. You might just want to try it one more time and see if it was a temporary issue as this isn't one I can reproduce and the others have been able to enroll as you mentioned. Another thing you can try is click on "apply for a RoadTest" action on the main RoadTest page (in the Actions box) and select the RoadTest as the first field on the form and see if that makes a difference. If not, please let me know what browser, and OS you are using and we'll look into it some more.

    Thanks for your patience guys.

    Christy

You may have to click shift+F5 to force a refresh of your cache, but this gap issue on the Groups menu should now be fixed.

    Thanks,

    Christy

    Hi Christy:

I finally managed to delete my entries. Thanks.

I don't see nothing related in my enrollment. In "Your stuff", you can choose  RoadTest Apps, and there is a list of applied Road Test. Selecting one of them the unenrollment option appears.

Good point, I didn't find it yesterday.

"Delete road test app" button appears in "Actions" menu-block after you click the "Applied" link in the "Status" column.

Also the cms keeps your data when you make another road test app.

    Great!

Well, it's not so much that I dislike HTML format, it's that your emails use up too much space for just one or two lines of reply.

I mean, the logo is too big and could live on the same line as the information right beneath it, the space before paragraphs is too big, the border around the whole thing seems useless waste of blank space, the disclaimer at the bottom could well be written in a much smaller font...

In the end, I often have to scroll the preview pane to see the entire response by the user which is what I'm most interested in.

Hence the reason why I preferred the text format as it did not have all that wasted space.

    Hi Inigo,

My account (top menu) > Profile > Your Stuff (tab) => now appears a "Your Stuff" Right-side-blue-menu.

    In this blue menu click "RoadTest Apps" (   http://www.element-14.com/community/people/    ---->your_name_here<----    ?view=roadTestApp    )

and you will get a page with a table with 4 colums (Author   |  RoadTest  |   Status  |    Application Actions)

    image

Here click the "Applied" link and you'll find this page:

    image

There is that red "Delete road test app" button.

Sorry for the pictures, I couldn't upload the full size ones.
