Some changes to RoadTest

awinning
awinning over 15 years ago

Hi,

Tonight element14 will be upgraded to a newer version of the platform we use. This change gives us the the chance to improve the way we organise RoadTest. I was at a presentation of the new features last night, so I thought I'd pass them on.

The current change is to do with entry to RoadTests. Now we have events, which confuse people as they think that it is a physical event. This was the only way I could figure out how to manage tests when I started the group. From tomorrow, there will be a RoadTest tab next to discussions, documents and events. In that tab there is a drop down menu which will let you navigate to the particular test you are applying for. There you will find a button which lets you apply for the test. You will have to complete a form..name, address etc, which then you can then save to your profile (as private) so the next time the form will be filled in automatically.

I think that's the basics of it. The first test using the new system will be tomorrow with the ADI RF kit. Do me a favour and try give it a go and let me know what you think here? I think the first time you apply will take a little longer, but after that it should be just as easy as now.

The benefits this change will bring are that I don't need to send a pm to each winner for addresses and then copy and paste into a spreadsheet manually (you can imagine how "fun" that was for me when I had to do 50 for one test, and how excited I was when one Product Manager here offered me 200 dev kits image). After the draw I can go onto the entry page, which looks like it does now, and tick the testers. Anyone can see that page and the testers automatically. The entries will be in a form, which means I don't have to wait 2 - 3 weeks to get addresses from testers, and you get the kits much quicker image.

    Just waiting for that tab!

I didn't imagine that the road-test job was done so... manually.

    Hard work but good job.

When I only try to think that we all asked you about the packages, shipping, tracking ... .

Thanks for the kind words guys! image

Just to let you know that the update was postponed till tonight!

Danteo, yeah, it was totally manual! I should have taken a picture of my desk three weeks ago. It was almost hidden by dev kits!

Gordon, Posting lists of winners is probablt the most manual part of the process. I've been trying to get a list together over the last couple of weeks..

    Hi Kenny,

    >1. The Popup List that appears when you hover over   'Groups' at the top  of any E14 page has a gap between 'Groups' and the popup - so you can't  select anything because the popup disappears (popsdown ?) when you move  over the gap!

I tried it but did not see any problem. I can easily move and select any item in the gap.

    Hello:

No problems here with the login, I have not been loged off.

I have test the Enroll option, twice. I don't know if it will be better to only allow one enrollment.

And now, how can I un-enroll?

    Iñigo.

(using Chrome 6.0 on Win XP.)

    1. I get the same thing with the Groups button. But not with any of the other (Tech Docs/Browse All...) buttons.

    2. I agree, the 'like' button is messy It needs a space between 'like' and the number.

Also, I went to the roadtest page for the SOT89 board, (I haven't signed up for that roadtest) and it didn't log me out.

Otherwise I like the new roadtest system.

OK, I tried on FireFox on Mac and there was no problems - everything works nicely. Still getting the gap with IE/Win and Safari/Mac - it's no big deal really though.

    Kenny,

You are right about it. I found that if you are logged out then when you hover on the Groups tab you can easily move and select the items in the gap but if you are logged in then the gap appears a bit far down than its normal position and you can not move in the gap and never select any item because the gap suddenly disappears.

One note more : if you are logged out then the link address of the main Element14 page is http://www.element-14.com/community/index.jspa and if you are logged in then the link address changes to http://www.element-14.com/community/index.jspa?showhomepage=true. Maybe development guys at E14 may find this meaningfull to solve the problem.
