  • I have been investigating Source Measure Units (SMUs) lately.  Even though they have been around for 20 years, I've only recently become aware of these hybridized instruments. This is an intriguing class of test equipment, especially for precise automated test of experimental devices in research and development labs.  They combine a precsion DMM with a precsion power supply and an electronic load. Some even have waveform generation capability.  I'd be thrilled to get my hands on a Keithley 2600B series SMU and compare it against a more traditional suite of test equipment performing device characterization tests.
