As an electronics newbie I would love to see some basic gear that would help someone start a good electronics lab.
Digital Multi Meters (low, med and high quality) - what's the tradeoff for price?
Oscilloscopes - guides on the different capabilities (cost/performance/quality), USB vs PC vs benchtop
Soldering stuff (irons, solder, desoldering, flux, etc.)
Power supplies
Safety stuff (ESD, fume extraction, etc).
Education - books, websites, videos (EEVblog is great
)
Misc aids: Magnifiers, tweezers, helping hands,
Some of the many Arduino shields and sensors for building "fun" stuff.

Soldering stations suitable for SMD work would be good to review.
Fume extraction might be tricky to review, how would you measure flow rates, filter quality?
