What electronics dilemma do you hope to find a solution to in 2012?

Hi there everyone!

I hope you all had a happy New Year celebration!

As the new year begins most like to start fresh and new - which made me wonder what issues everyone is hoping to tackle in 2012?  Are you looking to wrap up a design that has you stumped?  Find the perfect part to complete a project?  Maybe you're trying to learn a new software?  Are you a student and your goal is graduation?!  For those of you in the buyer/procurement role - are there any tools you want to try that will help make your job easier?

Whatever your personal goal is this year I hope you tackle it! image

Good luck!

    - I plan on releasing several of my most ambitious projects in 2012. One, I have been developing off and on for years.
    - I have so many hurdles that have me stumped. But through element14 and my friends I usually figure them out. Just a few dozen more to go.
    - I want to advance my learning of SolidWorks, Eagle, NC control, and C programming.
    - As for tools, I want to program that can simulate CNC control of a generic machine. I would rather build virtually to avoid costly errors.

I skipped education for last, I do want to return to school. It is so costly these days, especially for those who pay for it themselves, like me. The only way I can teach high level classes is to be at an even higher level.

Also, in 2012....we all need get out of the economic rut and spark nationwide innovation.

In all honesty, there are far too many to list and/or think about, in fact when I did try to think of a few to enter here I end up going into "that loop"  again with the same thoughts that I`v had for the last 6 months and it makes me feel almost physically sick! (SOMETHING HAS TO BREAK!)

one of the more trivial ones however, and maybe someone here can provide some help, is the Solid state drives I use on ZED (my home made computer).

although not written up about yet (I`m still procrastinating about publishing Chapter 2), I`m using 512k (64x8k) drives for ZED, these are made up of 4x Xicor 28C010 chips.

they map into the 8k space I use for Programs, simply by selecting mem bank and page with some toggle switches, there are 4 Mem banks (one per chip) and 16 pages per chip.

so we have 8k Rom for the OS, then 8K EEPROM for the program area, and 48k of RAM.

everything runs really well at 8MHz, until you run from the "drive", then it will only work at 4MHz?

the patching in of the drive is purely passive and static, once patched into the EEPROMs place in the stack, nothing else is done or performed, it literally is the same as chaning the IC over with another prog on it.

some progs will work at 5MHz but get a bit flaky over time, these drive chips are Faster rated than the EEPROM also at 120ns.

I have no idea WHY it`s behaving this way, but i`ll find out eventually image
