How are reviewers selected?

Former Member
Former Member over 13 years ago

What kind of criteria is used for selecting who is going to review what product?

It is just a random selection or do the applications actually get reviewed and selected?

Are past reviews taken into consideration? For example if two people where in the running for an item, one person wrote a good detailed review of the last item they received while the other either didn't write a review of there last item or just wrote up a basic thank you and "this is what I got" kind of review. Would the person known for writing a good review be selected of the other?

I'm just looking to get a feel for how important it is for Element 14 to have good quality reviews of these products. I see in many cases where only 2 or 3 reviews are published for the 5 to 10 kits that where sent out. Do people get removed form the Road Test group if they receive a kit and never write a review or do they just get black listed from receiving any future kits?

Thanks for your time!

So, I thought I'd weigh in on this topic because I was one of the folks selected to review the Arduino Uno and there appears to be alot of comment/critism since that particular Road Test was closed and…

In my life long experience I have found that the main reason people ask this type of question on things that are being given away is because of the simple fact that they were not selected. Therefore by…

I was selected to review the PIC24EP512GU810-I/PFPIC24EP512GU810-I/PF Starter Kit from Microchip...

Still not finished I am afraid, Nearly finished, however, I chose to replicate a circuit I had already designed for the PIC24F series. It is very complicated and has taken a lot longer than I anticipated.

Problems waiting for parts, the kit arrived later than expected, just a week before the review should have been finished. Having more time to complete the review would have helped...or perhaps I should have been less adventurous...NO...not in my nature.

I do not take the attitude that it is FREE stuff, my time is not FREE, and neither is my expertise.

I have applied for Road Tests before and not been selected, I decided that my application was not good enough.

I have learned a valuable lesson, do not apply unless I have the time and skills applicable to the product being road tested, and make sure I put in a well though out application.

Same here. I wrote mine not as quickly as possible but because i have played around with PIC18F's in my school but never did i occur to me that there would be a PIC24EP512GU810-I/PFPIC24EP512GU810-I/PF.

But i am pretty depressed that i didn't win the U1272 and that the PIC24EP512GU810-I/PFPIC24EP512GU810-I/PF MPLAB USB STARTER KIT requires a 100$+ I/O extension board .... MICROCHIP REALLY ?!

That was my main issue with the PIC24EP512GU810-I/PFPIC24EP512GU810-I/PF SK...the 144 pin hirose connector is ridiculous!

To save cost I bought 2 connectors and have developed my own I/O board...takes time though...especially as the datasheet is also a little biased towards their own I/O boards.

    David,

How do you find it on solderpad - there isn't  a global search and you haven't given a tag. (I'm sure I must be missing something but solderpad is the weirdest site to search .......)

    Hi Michael

Sorry, I meant you wil find it there as soon as I have put it on there...image

I just have a small problem to iron out and it should be good to go...it has a MRF24FWB0MAMRF24FWB0MA for wifi on it, and that has delayed me as well....steep learning curve on the old TCP/IP stack...

Will be on by end of weekend...will tag it PIC24EP512GU810-I/PFPIC24EP512GU810-I/PF and robotonics...

    @ DCD,

No bother - I looked at solderpad when it was very new and had forgotten about it so it was nice to be reminded.

    Hi,

Little question: How are road testers informed about their chance to road test?

I mean, I was send a package with a title road test, but it would incur import duties, hence it got send back.

I have not heard anything afterwards.

I also never got an email or other communication informing me of "winning" a roadtest chance.

    Can someone explain?

    cheers,

    Hi,

Look at that specific RoadTest page and you'll find that you won it.

Ok. So yes I was selected, but I can not review the product since it has been send back to parcel company due to import duty. What do I do now?
