Import TAX of kit's sent to UK

Dear RoadTest,

I'd like to ask you to look into how you are shipping product to us members in the UK. As today I had the nice chap from UPS turn up with a parcel for me however because the content was marked with a cost, then the UK customs then make a handerling charge and TAX charge. In this case this came to £25.

No as we offer our time to review the kits and I know we get them for free and get to keep them, however I'm unwilling to pay import TAX on what is a FREE dev kit. Had I payed for a product from outside the UK I know that I would have to pay import TAX and as so am happy to do so - thats just what we do.

So I would like to suggest that if you want people in other places around the world, that are subject to import duties, then you should ship them from your local offices / distribution points.

Un till this has changed, I have to say I will not take part in RoadTest's from now on.

Regards

Paul

I've just been informed that this issue has been resolved and that the packages in question will be delivered without charges, as they should be. I would request that if there are any further problems…

Hi I would like to suggest that complaints about import tax belong elsewhere... Road testing products should not be just about getting FREE developments kits, after all there is no such thing as a free…

Thanks to Paul for bringing this issue up again - it is a very long running one!

    eg, see:  http://www.element14.com/community/polls/1353#comment-13715

And thanks to Christian for being a point of contact to sort it out!

One of the big problems has been trying to find anyone in Farnell/Element-14/Whatever who actually knows anything about this - let alone can do anything about it!

Maybe I'll think again about joining the RoadTests now...

Sounds like the UK has some "shady" delivery guys.

There are problems in Romania too. I had to pay about 30 USD, they said it was for the VAT. This time I paid because I wanted to test this device but I am not sure I will be willing to pay for other parcels. Maybe I can get as a compensation a free programming cable for the IMO iSmart!

Then you'll have to pay for the VAT on that!

Same for me with the Freescale TRK-USB-MPC5602P roadtest. in my case it was not VAT as in my country small packages don't pay VAT. But a fee that UPS charges for handling the package.

    Good afternoon -

Let me please reiterate matters - no Road Tester should have to pay import charges, VAT or shipping charges.  We are continuing to work with UPS to get this matter resolved permanently.

It would be very helpful if those who have been affected by this issue would send me a private message with any tracking numbers / details.

Many thanks for your kind attention.

It was quite a long time ago - would you like me to dig back through the accounts, or do you only want "recent" examples?
