Is this site real or bogus?

The thought of a website that encourages product reviews by letting people try the product sounds interesting and useful, but of the last 5 or 6 items offered, I see no reviews or activity at all!  Has anyone out there received or reviewed any of the recent products or is this just another way to get on a mailing list?  After 5 months, it may be time to drop this site!

    Perhaps nobody's managed to correctly decode the instructions for getting their name in the hat yet...  Calendars? Attending events? Which ones?  Every day?

    Considering how much Farnell spent on element-14, I'd have expected it to be clearer.

    Hi guys,

    Thanks for your feedback. I can assure you that RoadTest is not bogus. Because of the way element14 is set up I started with a few longer RoadTests, just to get people into the idea, and give them time to enter. From now on I can't see any RoadTests lasting longer than a month.

    The way the test works is,

    I put up a roadtest as an event

    registered users have until the event starts to say they will be attending.

    On the day the event closes, I choose the winners and message them for postage details

    As soon as possible afterwards I post the prizes from our distribution site.

    The Altera, and Altium tests finished on the 1st December, and the Freescale test finishes on the 12th. So if the winners get back to me quickly (several already have), they will receive the kits before Christmas.

    Hi all,

    Just one question on Pickit 3 bundle.

    There was 20 bundle, and we were 60 waiting for this event.

    Did someone get news ?

    Hi Eric,

    The PicKit event has just finished, and winners will be contacted by the end of the week.

    Sorry for the slow reply, my computer is playing up a bit.

    There are already several reviews from winners in the group under discussions.

    I also forgot to mention earlier. Entrants details will not be used for any other purpose than to notify them of their success, and to get postal details

    If there are any other questions I will be delighted to help

    I have to admit to not checking back on the Road Test events for the past month - last time I looked, events were tagged as being across many days, adding to the confusion.  This has now been changed, and all the 'attendees' from all the days have been merged into single events, which is much clearer.  Apologies for the premature e14 bashing.

    p.s. I rather like the Garmin Nuvi interface

    Hi Andy,

    Yeah that is true. To be honest I was learning as I went along with Roadtest. What we noticed when we ran the event over multiple days was that it completely took over the events widget on the front page. So running it with one deadline made much more sense, removed the spam on the events page and made it much easier for users.

    Just as a thought. As I said earlier, no names will be used without the user's permission. But from now on, I will ask when I email for postal details if I can publish the winners' names on the group to make everything more transparent.

    Does that seem fair?

    <2p>

    As everyone who has requested to take part has their name listed in the Attendees section anyway, perhaps it should be a rule (in the future) that the selected users names will be listed - this could aid with the evaluation process (quirks could be discussed between testers to help rule out operator error), lets other visitors know who from what industry might be able to advise them (testers from the same industry might have already tried a relevant feature), and would encorage the feedback that the process is intended to create.

    </2p>

    I really like that idea Andy. The site is intended to be for the users, and that sounds a great way to provide interaction. I am still a little reluctant to publish names without permission, does anyone else have thoughts on this subject?

    If the responses (i.e. the Road Test Results) are unmoderated, then the authors names will be published along with the results anyway...  If people wanted to remain anonymous, they could probably send their submission to Alistair who could post them to the documents section, and cross the name off of the (secret) 'awaiting feedback' list.  Perhaps.

    I think your earlier suggestion is a great one. If the winners are known (and choose to be published), they can contact each other (maybe add as friend), or create a thread asking questions, suggesting solutions and reporting problems and how to overcome those problems. It doesn't make any more work for me to take someone's name off the list if they don't wish to be known. Hopefully they will make thereselves known in the longer term by posting a review
