rscasny : Related but something completely different. It sounds like you have good contacts to Renesas. I would be highly interested in roadtesting their (not so) new announced ForgeFPGA line. And it would show commitment from their side that those chips will be ready for purchase eventually. 
The kit would be ForgeFPGA Development Board (SLG7DVKFORGE) + ForgeFPGA Socket Adapter #1 (SLG4SA24-30x30).
