ROADTEST POLL: Seeking Your Interest in Roadtesting the PSoC 62 Eval Kit with ModusToolbox

imageI will be launching a roadtest on the Infineon PSoC 62 Eval Kit with ModusToolbox. This roadtest is somewhat unique in that the sponsor would like to have your your getting started experience of the ModusToolboxTm as a key element of the review. The sponsor has provided me with some specific questions for the roadtester to answer, which I have listed below. But first let me talk about the hardware.

Here's some information on the The PSoCTm 62S2 evaluation kit:

The PSoCTm 62S2 evaluation kit (CY8CEVAL-062S2) enables you to evaluate and develop applications using the PSoCTm 62 MCU. The kit features the PSoCTm 62 MCU (CY8C624ABZI-S2D44): 150-MHz Arm® Cortex®-M4 and 100-MHz Arm® Cortex®-M0+ cores, 2MB of Flash, 1MB of SRAM, hardware crypto accelerator, rich analog and digital peripherals, audio and communication interfaces, and industry-leading capacitive-sensing with CAPSENSETm technology.

Here are some features of the kit:

  • PSoCTm 62 MCU (CY8C624ABZI-S2D44)
  • M.2 interface connector to connect the M.2 radio modules
  • By default, the kit package includes Sterling-LWB5+ M.2 radio module from Laird Connectivity for out-of-the-box evaluation
  • OPTIGATm Trust-M security controller
  • mikroBUS interface for hardware expansion using Click boards
  • Headers compatible with Arduino Uno R3 for hardware expansion using Arduino shields

Here's some information on the Modus Toolbox:

ModusToolboxTm software supports application development using the PSoCTm 62S2 evaluation kit by providing board support package (BSP), and validated code examples to get you started.

Here's what you get with the kit:

  • PSoCTm 62S2 evaluation board
  • Sterling-LWB5+ Wi-Fi / Bluetooth® M.2 radio module from Laird Connectivity based on AIROCTm CYW4373E Wi-Fi & Bluetooth® combo chip (plugged into the M.2 interface of the PSoCTm 62S2 evaluation board)
  • FlexPIFA antenna from Laird Connectivity to mount on the Sterling-LWB5+ M.2 module
  • USB Type-A to Micro-B cable
  • Four jumper wires (four inches each), two jumper wires (five inches each)
  • Quick start guide

Sponsor's Questions

Test the getting started experience of ModusToolboxTm

  • Are the resources you need readily available to start developing with ModusToolboxTm?
  • What is your assessment on getting started with ModusToolboxTm from a new user’s perspective?
  • What documentation/content was most beneficial in your ModusToolboxTm development experience? (User Guides, Videos, Training Classes, Community)
  • Which available Code Examples did you find most useful in getting started?

Explore the flexibility of ModusToolboxTm

  • Are you able to use the ModusToolboxTm Library Manager to integrate additional software? What middleware did you utilize?
  • Which IDE do you prefer to use with ModusToolboxTm?
  • Are you able to utilize both cores available on the PSoCTm 62 device within ModusToolboxTm?
  • Did you use PDL drivers, Hardware Abstraction APIs, or a combination of both?

Tes, Experiment and/or Build with the PSoCTm Evaluation Kit and ModusToolboxTm

  • How easy was it to leverage the capabilities on the board and the expansion interfaces?
  • How easy was it to program and debug your application with the evaluation board?
  • Are you able to utilize the wireless connectivity applications (Wi-Fi, BLE) in ModusToolboxTm with PSoCTm 6 MCU and AIROCTm combo module on the kit?

I'd be interested in answering the question posed by the vendor above. I have 2 Psoc6 EVK and 1 PSoC4 kit. The PSoC6 kits seem to be better supported in ModusToolbox. the PSoC4 family is better supported…

The PSoC6 kits seem to be better supported in ModusToolbox. the PSoC4 family is better supported in PC Creator.

I am presently in a design challenge with the PSoC62S4 kit and am using ModusToolbox 3.0. version 3.0 is more suited for Dual-core development and debugging then it's predecessor version 2.4. I could give an unbias review on the: Getting started, and the Flexibility of modus toolbox and describe experimenting with  examples and building firmware to run on the PSoC6 using ModusToolbox .

The RoadTest piqued my interest but also generated some sober second thought.

"This Roadtest is somewhat unique in that the sponsor would like to have your your getting started experience of the ModusToolboxTm as a key element of the review."

How for along the path of new to this technology would be ideal for a applicant, so as to provide the maximum benefit to the "getting started experience"

With a the review time graph favouring 61-80 hours, can someone with experience provide some commentary on what the applicant would need for experience to participate in this RoadTest. I'm concerned for myself that wanting to learn is just not enough and would leave me coming up short on the review.

If they want to see how someone with ADD can follow the instructions, I can do that.

Just be aware that I may not get it done fast.
