An element14 exclusive! We are pleased to have secured three Rapiro kits courtesy of SwitchScience and the Kiluck Corporation. In order to maximise the potential of this unit, we will supply a Raspberry Pi and Pi Camera with each unit.

Product Information

It's Programmable!

The RAPIRO board is Arduino compatible and you can program it using the Arduino IDE. Your RAPIRO could dance or sweep your desk if you program it to do so.

It's Customizable!

RAPIRO has countless possibilities for expansion! By mounting a Raspberry Pi and sensors (sold separately), you can customize your RAPIRO any way you want.

It has 12 Servo Motors!

RAPIRO comes with a total of 12 servo motors, one for its neck, one in the waist, four for the two feet, and the final six for its two arms. The torques of the six servos in the neck, waist and two feet, are 2.5kgf-cm(35ozf-in). The torques of six servos in the two arms are 1.5kgf-cm(21ozf-in). Both operating speeds are 0.12 sec/60°. Both maximum angles are 180°

Terms & Conditions

Testers will be selected on the basis of quality of applications: we expect a full and complete description of why you want to test this particular product. We will look particularly favourably upon applicants who commit to blogging about the product and what projects they use it for on our Raspberry Pi Projects group upon receipt.
Testers are required to produce a full, comprehensive and well thought out review within 2 months of receipt of the product.
Failure to provide this review within the above timescale will result in the enrolee being excluded from future Road Tests.

Adding a Rpi camera then using openCV to detect the visual input to augment the positional data would be a good next step in the next version of this

awwwww what a sweetie! Totally gutted I missed the chance to enroll. Its just crying out to be modded with lcd for eyes like a furby has! Oh! and a speaker so he can make cute noises(and mimic environmental sounds).

Applications are private because they contain address information; we wouldn't be doing a very good job of data protection if we did otherwise.

I am certain that why these particular applications were chosen will become apparent once the reviews and blogs come back. Thanks again.

doctorcdf, why can't I see the Roadtest Applications of the users that were awarded the Rapiro? I was very curious what would be awaiting us. I think my own application is visible, but I can't see the Roadtest Application of those that have been chosen.

Good morning and thank you to all our wonderful RoadTesters for their astonishing array of detailed, interesting and even heartfelt applications. As we've been going through with them, it has become clear that this little robot has captured the imagination of so many and its potential uses are vast.
It is a pity then, that we only have 3 units this time around. It has been incredibly difficult to make a decision - however, here are the individuals who have been selected:

We hope to be seeing all of their Rapiros in action soon and that they will blog about their adventures with this unit on Raspberry Pi Projects. I've started a makerspace here in México about a year ago, we have some lego robots altogether with arduinos & raspberry pi cards, I think the rapiro would be the cherry of the cake for our community which is mainly college students
