Raspberry Pi and EnOcean Internet of Things Pack

Since the Raspberry Pi was introduced in 2012, it has taken the world by storm, revolutionising the fields of electronics education, project development and rapid prototyping. Now the Raspberry Pi is ready to embrace the Internet of Things with the addition of the EnOcean Pi and EnOcean Sensor accessories.

EnOcean Pi

EnOcean Pi is a wireless module which connects to batteryless EnOcean modules that are powered by energy converters that use mechanical motion, light or temperature differences as an energy source. This allows for maintenance-free sensor and actuator solutions that provide the necessary data for intelligent control.

Developers and OEMs can easily design low-cost gateways for embedded Internet of Things applications, such as smart home solutions. Instead of developing new products from scratch, developers can use the EnOcean Pi and Raspberry Pi to create a ready-made smart home box, which can process and visualise data from batteryless wireless sensors and provide central control of a wireless connected house. Other applications are gateways for cloud services or low-cost building automation with an interface to all EnOcean-based solutions.

Accompanying the EnOcean Pi, we have included the EnOcean Sensor Pack - the products enclosed include -

A temperature sensor
A wireless switch
A contact sensor

What We're Looking For

For this RoadTest, we will look particularly favourably on applications that describe their Internet of Things project ideas which will utilise this kit. We will encourage successful testers to blog about their projects on element14's Internet of Things group.

Terms & Conditions

Testers will be selected on the basis of quality of applications: we expect a full and complete description of why you want to test these products.
Testers are required to produce a full, comprehensive and well thought out review within 2 months of receipt of the products.
Failure to provide this review within the above timescale will result in the enrolee being excluded from future Road Tests.

Christian -
I had a card floating around that I used. This is my first time using the Pi so it was probably beneficial for me to learn how to create the NOOBS SD card.

I'm in the US and got the Pi and the Gateway. Contacted customer service as the Sensor kit was on back order. The tracking number they provided shows it will arrive Friday the 13th hopefully that means the US orders will be arriving soon. I don't think CS can help much as it's billed to Newark's account. Hope the information is helpful and that my guess is right for the rest.

I'm not sure I know how to answer your question. I'm still waiting my Sensors. But here's a few links that maybe can help I hope.

Home made sensor module based on the TCM320 module it has sample code maybe it can be found in there.

Using the STM330 how do I determine the actual temperature?
I understand that the temperature range is set to a range between 0 and 40 degrees C with a resolution of 0.16 kelvins (0.16 centigrade).
The only sensor reading that changes is sensor3 which is currently reads 128.

I need the following information:
number of bits of resolution (at a guess I would say 8 bit resolution)
Can I connect my own thermistor to the header pins on the board and get a wider range? Is there a guide?
I have read the data sheets for the stm330 but they are surprisingly sparse on information.

If there is a resolution of 0.16 then the bit resolution should be 8 (40 / 256 = 0.15625).

Assuming that the resolution is 8 bits then the temperature should be calculated using:
t = (sensor3 / 256) * 40
so if sensor3 == 128:
t = (128 / 256) * 40
t = (0.5) * 40
t = 20

I am really looking forward to this review, especially considering my intention to monitor my freezer temperature now that I have bulk bought a pile of meat in anticipation of those warm summer days barbecuing in the British rain

It easily connects to any TV through HDMI for newer TV's and RCA for older TV's. Once setup on the network you can SSH in through Smartphone, MAC, Linux, or a PC with almost any Free SSH Program.

Overall when in doubt contact them directly and post concerns with them. Contact | EnOcean they seem legitimate and more than likely to answer any concerns about their product. They have region specific individuals who can answer your questions. Provide documentation on why and how their product is legal in your country. And probably even more useful information about what frequency they use. element14 and it's community are a great resource but I believe they are the best to talk about their product and it's compliance within a given country.
