Developing with the MSP430FR5969 Family is now enabled by the LaunchPad ecosystem.
The MSP-BNDL-FR5969LCD LaunchPad development kit is based on the first device in the MSP430 ULP FRAM platform – the MSP430FR5969 device. The MSP430FR5969 device features embedded FRAM, a non-volatile memory known for its low power, high endurance and high speed write access. The benefits of FRAM and the ultra-low power features of this kit can be used in a wide variety of applications ranging from metering and consumer electronics to unconventionally powered sensors. This bundle of the MSP-EXP430FR5969 LaunchPad Evaluation Kit with 430BOOST-SHARP96 LCD Display BoosterPack contains everything needed to start developing on a MSP430 FRAM Technology platform, including on-board emulation for programming and debugging. The board features on-board buttons and LEDs for quick integration of a simple user interface as well as a SuperCap allowing standalone RTC operation without an external power supply.
The out-of-box experience provided with the MSP-BNDL-FR5969LCD uses the MSP-EXP430FR5969 LaunchPad and the 430BOOST-SHARP96 LCD BoosterPack. The display enables a great user experience and allows developers to more easily model their end application. One example enables the LaunchPad to run in low power modes for up to 20 hours without an external power supply. Free software development tools are also available, such as TI’s Eclipse-based Code Composer Studio and IAR Embedded Workbench.

Testers will be selected on the basis of quality of applications: we expect a full and complete description of why you want to test these particular products.
Testers are required to produce a full, comprehensive and well thought out review within 2 months of receipt of the products.
Failure to provide this review within the above timescale will result in the enrolee being excluded from future Road Tests.
Many thanks to all who applied; this particular RoadTest provided a pleasant dilemma of who to pick, there were so many good and varied proposals. However, in this instance we've selected:
Abhijit Bose
Arturo Serna Leon
Vishnu Raj
Javier Schandy
Douglas Wong
Congratulations to the selected testers: those who weren't picked, I'd encourage to apply for RoadTests in the future!
Absolutely correct COMPACT, i had some troubles getting them workibg with MSP430G2xx launchpad as they have ~500bytes of ram aulthough I did get it working thanks to awesome online community.
I also tries msp430F5529 launchpad which I got as a RoadTester and i was able to get it running but the touch doesnt seems to work . any help on that side would be great ??
Couldn't find them on the farnell site (maybe I didn't know what to look for), as for booster packs - I have no use for testing them if I can't easily source the LCDs themselves.
For those who are interested I have used Sharp Memory LCDs (with the XL Star) and have used FRAM based MSP430s and find both very capable.
The LCD memory is write only meaning that one needs to manage the screen display. This usually requires a display buffer of sorts comprising of Random Access Memory.
This nice thing about this combination is that the MSP430 used for this road test has 64K internal FRAM allowing room for a full bitmap buffer.
This is the same Display which Pebble Watch has. It consumes like 40uA in active Mode i.e. static image , and I saw somebody demoing the Display which was on for like 3-5 sec on a 100uF cap ! AWESOME !!!

Congrats everyone, your in for a treat as these devices are fun and simple to use
And if you want to try stuff not in the box as they say (Out of the BOX) then keep an eye on the Electronic Referee blog…
