The Wolfson Audio Card, produced in collaboration with Wolfson, the premier mixed-signal semiconductor and audio solutions company, offers Raspberry Pi® users similar flexibility to a PC soundcard to capture audio alongside their camera, and experiment with stereo digital capture and playback.

Features

3.5 mm jack (4-pole) for a headset/boom mic combination for gaming or VoIP applications
Capable of rendering HD Audio, at 24-bit, 192kHz
On-board MEMS microphone
3.5 mm jack stereo line output for connection to devices such as external stereo amplifiers or powered speakers
S/PDIF input and output
On-board class D power amplifier for external speakers, with connection to external power source if needed.
Small pin header for extra functions if they are low cost, already on-chip, and don't require any further components

Testers are required to produce a full, comprehensive and well thought out review within 2 months of receipt of the product.
Failure to provide this review within the above timescale will result in the enrolee being excluded from future Road Tests.

I can't say how easy it will be to compile the kernel for Wolfson support, but the instructions seem to be well-documented.

Hi tekmeister I completely agree with you, I have wasted Approx 2 Weeks getting things running .

The problem with Jasper Disk image is that it does not have Wolfson's Audio card drivers, and i haven't tried my hands on compiling a Linux kernal yet ! So, what would be you advice :
Do I go for Jasper Disk image + compile a raspbian kernel with the drivers included ?
OR
Go with the Wolfson's image + get Jasper configured properly without bricking the image

Speaking from experience, installing Jasper on a RPi can be fiddly and take some time to get going. The Jasper website does offer a pre-built disk image. Perhaps you could start from that and then install the Wolfson drivers?

HI Guys, due to some unavoidable circumstances My review will be delayed.
Further, I had a question ?
I have preloaded Wolfson's pre-compiled image from Element14 community page, and it works fine. But, when i try configuring jasper it bricks the image and i can use any audio device on my pi anymore, any help !! as i cant compete my project without this.

I was accepted into the RoadTest but still have not receive the product. I'm really excited though. I have some great ideas to expand my Pi.

I posted the update on another thread. Sorry forgot to update the email stated they were on track to release to Raspbian by end of Q2 so next month. Trying to hold out to review then.

See the comment here. Note 2 months to review deadline would be sometime first week of July.

Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone that has received a Wolfson card.

I contacted Wolfson HQ in regards to the status of any updated software especially aimed towards the latest Raspbian image.

My Questions to them started from this thread found here in the community. Wolfson drivers not in next Raspbian update

I am fielding many questions within the element14 community and have been following you board for quite some time.

I am curious if you could update me on the status of your PR documentation needed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation to include your card into their support structure.

You can find the official response in this thread. Dated almost a month ago.

Just a heads up for anyone opening the package for the first time... There's a second near-translucent plastic screw in the envelope that's easy to miss if you're not watching for it. It's purpose is to secure the offset to the Raspberry Pi (for physical support). I didn't discover the screw until cleaning up the work area, after opening the package and examining the sound card. It had fallen out of the bag, worked its way across the work space, and had lodged itself under the edge of a keyboard, before I noticed it.

I don't think so, I went through the Road test and nowhere does it say that a RPi is included.
