Detailed Review:

Sometimes life just gets away from you.  I just realized that I had not completed my Aluminium aTtenuator DevKit review which should have been done months ago...

To help support the e13 roadtest completion stats and in tribute to e13Alice's hard work getting all the roadtest kits shipped, I decided that it was time to get this done.

Unboxing - the 15 270x300mm aluminium sheets arrived folded and somewhat crumpled, but other than poor surface smoothness was otherwise undamaged.

RoadTest - My original plan was to form a total coverage helmet (with eye and nose holes) to see if I could mitigate my tinnitus (a persistent ringing that follows me everywhere I go).  I suspected that someone might be trying to drive me crazy with pulsed rf or microwave energy (Havana Syndrome).

Looking at the aluminium sheets, I realized that I don't have the skill required to create such a foil helmet, so I opted for a simpler roadtest that I could complete.

I've been recently playing with a solar power hat and realized that I could protect the top of my head from solar radiation just by lining the inside of the crown of the hat - something I can actually accomplish...

I'm happy to report that counter to intuition that even though the foil blocked the ventilation mesh, I actually felt cooler (sorry, no quantitative data).  And by mounting it on the inside, I don't frighten birds or drivers.  So, a perfect application for lightweight aluminium foil.

Just because this was supposed to be about tinnitus, I decided to do one additional experiment.  I lined a set of earplugs with the foil.  I'll have to admit it wasn't very comfortable, but it did distract me from the ringing Laughing.

  •  Raised handsClap  THAT  WAS  BRILLIANT !!!  I respect that kind of field engineering.  GREAT job!

  •  Hadn't thought of building an energized shield, but somehow I don't think 12 Watts is enough...

And yes, sometimes crazy ideas have solved problems I've encountered.  During the 1994 Northridge earthquake my neighbor's natural gas line sheared off before the meter and I was able to find a broom with a wooden handle of the correct diameter - sawed it off and hammered it in place.  Wasn't a perfect solution, but it worked.  The gas company wasn't able to respond for a couple of days...

  •  Nice hat. Thumbsup  Since there's a power source, does that make your atTenuator active?  It could be an energized brain shield - a force field for your mind.
I do like the tinnitus plugs.  I'm sorry that they didn't work but sometimes crazy ideas do work.
