Detailed Review:
Smart or protected switches are MOSFETs with integrated logic which allows protection and diagnostic functionalities. Examples of typical loads could be e.g. lamps, heating systems, solenoids, motors, electronic components (ECU). This haven been part of product line of Infineon on IPM module with larger Size and Capacity. The module in much compact size and strong enough for application below 100W. Here is the list in this Road test.
In this road test , the three Protected Switch Shield shall be tested. Especially the function with Capacitor as power source. This brings more challenge like over current and unbalance current load. The arduino uno and XMC1100 Boot Kit both can provide control signals to Shield Board. Therefore, Arduino Uno is used as main development platform in this Roadtest. Same code can be used for XMC1100 Boot Kit if follow the instructions on https://github.com/Infineon/XMC-for-Arduino .
24V Protected Switch Shield
The 24VSHIELDBTT6030TOBO1 is a 24V protected switch shield with BTT6030-2EKA and BTT6020-1EKA for Arduino. The BTT6030-2EKA and BTT6020-1EKA are integrated high side power switches and part of PROFET+ 24V family. This power switch evaluation board is compatible with Arduino microcontroller boards and with Infineon’s XMC microcontroller kits using Arduino form factor. The target applications of PROFET+ 24V family are resistive, capacitive and inductive loads. It can be controlled either by an Arduino board or ARM-powered Infineon microcontroller kits using Arduino form factor.
Protected Switch Shield with BTS50010-1TAD for Arduino
The 12V Protected Switch Shield with BTS50010-1TAD from Infineon is a flexible evaluation board that can be controlled by microcontroller boards using the Arduino form factor such as Infineon’s XMC™ microcontroller kits. The shield with Infineon’s high-side switch Power PROFET™ BTS50010-1TAD can be controlled by a programmable microcontroller, e.g. XMC1100 Boot Kit, a 32-bit ARM® powered MCU from Infineon. For stand-alone mode, BTS50010 1TAD can be commanded ON/OFF by connecting pin P0.3 to 5 V (P2.10) or 12 V (VBat). The IS signal of BTS50010 is monitored by the on-board circuitry, indicating operation mode of BTS50010 on LED3 (green for normal mode) and LED4 (red for FAULT mode, such as overtemperature or short circuit to GND).
Low-Side Switch Shield with BTF3050TE for Arduino
The Low-Side Switch Shield from Infineon consists out of three BTF3050TE low-side switches of the HITFET™+ family providing three independent power channels that can be controlled via the input pins. The shield is compatible with microcontroller boards using the Arduino form factor for example the corresponding ARM® powered XMC™ microcontroller kits from Infineon and supports fast and easy prototyping of applications with BTF3050TE. With a nominal load current of 3 A the BTF3050TE is able to drive resistive, inductive and capacitive loads. Furthermore the smart low-side switch provides diagnosis and protection features (e.g. overtemperature, overcurrent).
XMC1100 Boot Kit
The XMC1100 Boot Kit is an Arduino compatible base board using Infineon’s XMC1100 ARM Cortex – M0 32-bit Microcontroller. It has two rows of pin headers which fully compatible with Arduino shield. Hence, user can buy various Arduino shield boards off-the-shelf to test the capabilities of XMC1100 Microcontroller. It is equipped with the following features:
Arduino UNO
The Arduino Uno is a microcontroller board based on the ATmega328 (datasheet). It has 14 digital input/output pins (of which 6 can be used as PWM outputs), 6 analog inputs, a 16 MHz ceramic resonator, a USB connection, a power jack, an ICSP header, and a reset button. It contains everything needed to support the microcontroller; simply connect it to a computer with a USB cable or power it with a AC-to-DC adapter or battery to get started. The Uno differs from all preceding boards in that it does not use the FTDI USB-to-serial driver chip. Instead, it features the Atmega16U2 (Atmega8U2 up to version R2) programmed as a USB-to-serial converter.
3.1 24V Protected Switch Shield
The 24VSHIELDBTT6030TOBO1 is a 24V protected switch shield with BTT6030-2EKA and BTT6020-1EKA for Arduino. The BTT6030-2EKA and BTT6020-1EKA are integrated high side power switches. The BTT6020-1EKA is a 20 mΩ single channel Smart High-Side Power Switch and the BTT6030-2EKA is a 32 mΩ dual channel Smart High-Side Power Switch, providing protective functions and diagnosis. The power transistor is built by an N-channel vertical power MOSFET with charge pump. The device is integrated in Smart6 HV technology. It is specially designed to drive lamps up to 3 * P21W 24V or 1 * 70W 24V, as well as LEDs in the harsh automotive environment.
Infineon’s new pin-compatible single and dual channel 24 V high-side switches of the PROFET™+ 24V family in PG-DSO-14 and PG-DSO-8 package provide embedded diagnostic and protective functions. Each power transistor is built by a n-channel vertical power MOSFET with charge pump. The devices are designed especially to drive resistive, capacitive as well as inductive loads (e.g. truck bulbs, car bulbs, valves, motors, relays, capacitors, LEDs).

3.2 Protected Switch Shield with BTS50010-1TAD for Arduino
The High Side Switch Shield adds powerful High Side Switches to Arduino projects and the High Side Switch Shield can be also used in stand alone mode without any microcontroller board. Since the input pin IN can be connected directly to VS (Battery voltage) the first stand alone tests with this High Side Switch Shield is very easy. The BTS50010-1TAD on board is an N-channel High Side MOSFET with an integrated driver IC in one package from Infineon Technologies. In addition to the driver, several security features have been integrated, like over-temperature-, short circuit- and over voltage protection. With key features,
o Input voltage : 3.3 to VS o Operating voltage range VS(OP): 8 to 18V
o Extended battery voltage VS(DYN): 3.2 to 28V
o Maximum ON-state resistance (TJ=150°C) RDS(ON): 2mΩ
o Minimum nominal load current: 40 A
o Minimum current limitation: 150 A
Latched status signal after short circuit or over temperat
Protected Switch Shield has reduced the nominal parameter, half that of datasheet in BTS50010-1TAD. ie. The BTS50010-1TAD is a 1.0 mΩ single channel Smart High-Side Power Switch, providing protective functions and diagnosis. It contains Infineon® ReverSave™ functionality. The power transistor is built by a N-channel power MOSFET with charge pump. It is specially designed to drive high current loads up to 80 A.
