VOTE Now! on the 2017 element14 RoadTesters of the Year

image

A few weeks ago, I asked you to nominate the candidates for the 2017 RoadTesters of the year. You came through with flying colors. We received nominations for 13 reviewers across 22 RoadTests. Now comes "hard decision" time: selecting the 4 roadtesters of the year.

I have pasted below the nominees with a link to their nominated reviews. Below this list, I have a poll.

Please select (vote once) the best roadtester of 2017. The top three vote getters (plus the top new roadtester) will be declared winners. Here are the nominations:

All Roadtesters are winners! Especially those who receive expensive kit. Those who have posted great reviews in the past have had the privilege of participating in Roadtests of equipment of higher value…

Trent, You make some good points. I agree that this nominating/vote process may well overlook someone who merits recognition. So, how can we recognize the "overlooked" members/roadtesters? Here are a few…

Its difficult - we only have one vote. Even though we have two categories to vote for (best road tester, and best newcomer). I for myself voted for a new road tester.

I wish there were 2 categories: best 1st time review and best overall reviewer

    I'd second that.

Some of the reviews of 'light weight' products was extremely good.

Because fo the volume it was difficult to read everyone of them, and then nominate, so sadly there will be those that miss out.

    Mark

It is nice to see the comparison links on one page.  As per picking a winner, I wish there were 2 categories: best 1st time review and best overall reviewer.

    Shabaz,

    You have written great reviews.

When I was in the process of writing my first review, I looked to some of your reviews for inspiration.

It was my failure to pay attention to that deadline.

I have voted already for another review that was among my choices.

    Randall,

    Thank you.

I am working to improve my written abilities and experience with different products.

It is with hope that these reviews will be helpful to someone.

    Randall,

You're correct. This started with nominations.

I missed the chance to make a nomination(my own fault)

The review that I wanted to vote for didn't receive any nominations. This review was written by a new member.

This person wrote a great review but didn't make the cut.

This person even provided me information that was helpful to one of my reviews.

I asked the community for help and this person responded.

I don't care that none of my reviews were selected.

I do care when someone who deserves some recognition is completely overlooked.

    .

    Trent,

I re-read your reviews. I think they are pretty good. I believe you are a first-year roadtester, too. This one I thought was very good:

    BeagleBoard.org BBB Wireless BBBWL-SC-562 - Review

You do some interesting things and provide links to help others learn about the products. RoadTests should be both teaching and learning experiences. I think you have done both. I can only imagine the great stuff you will be producing in the coming year. I look forward to seeing it.

    Randall

    Hi Trent!

This year from what I can see, it seems perhaps 90% of all reviews that were complete were really well done. So many have been really information-rich.

But, because there were a lot of reviews, it is in part just good fortune if people remembered and nominated one or not, i.e. lots of reasons people remember the last good review they read, or missed reading a good review, etc.

It doesn't mean that the remainder were worse than the ones so far selected.

Probably just a very tiny handful of the remainder are really not worth nominations (and usually those ones are really clear by the zero 'likes' or disappointed feedback in the comments sections).
