Or you could explain what you want to achieve and you might get some better targeted help.

Considering how many adverts, how tailored it is to different accounts, and how language can be a barrier, telling someone to google something isn't always the best answer.

Helping someone with the search terms for a search engine to find what they're looking for? Perfectly reasonable.

Providing the answer to their question directly? Event better, then anyone else who searches google will have an additional source to find the answer when the others no longer exist.

Perhaps a little reminder of how to get better answers when you ask a question in the forums might help. State the context of the problem, what you want to achieve, what your level of expertise is...

Right now, the user is only prompted to indicate whether they want to Ask a Question or Start a Discussion in the forum.

The problem is that only the OP knows the extra stuff to put in the question to improve the quality of the response from Google or from E14 members.

I would be happy to help the OP with searching but he hasn't provided enough context.  And I suggested that if he did provide more context then better help would be possible.

I did test the Google link and it gave 10 sensible and relevant hits on the first page. This is despite it having about 0.5Ghits to choose from.

I agree with /members/javagoza that adding a reminder to the "Ask a Question ....."  page ( or a prominent link to Shabaz's useful list of posting suggestions) would be helpful.

You can see in the responses to other questions on Forums how random the E14 response to a vague question can be.

The ping-pong just to extract a bit of information wastes everyone's time. On some problem-raising servers there is a text template that appears, so that people can fill it in, or delete it. I wish something like that could appear as soon as someone clicked on the create discussion box. That way the creator of the discussion can use their discretion how they proceed. It would be awesome if there were speech bubbles pointing to the Code and Image attachment menu items too!

EDIT: even neater if the template already had a single image, and a single code pane, with the text "paste your first image here" and "paste your code here". Anyone who didn't need these, could delete it.
