Admit it, at some point in your childhood this is how you thought you were going to commute to work. Well if you have roughly $230,000 you might just be able to that. Raymond Li, a Chinese Canadian living in St. John's, Newfoundland, developed the Jetlev (abbreviated from the words Jet Levitation) concept in 2000. Since 2003 he, and later his Jetlev Development Corporation, have been conducting feasibility studies and concept development in Canada. Unlike conventional aircrafts and jetpacks, the innovative Jetlev concept greatly improves thrust-to-weight ratio by locating the propulsion engine, fuel and related systems on a separate vessel tethered behind the jetpack, and uses water as the jet propulsion medium because its high density can carry vast amounts of power at much lower velocities, and generate nozzle reaction forces much more effectively, than gases. The Jetlev-Flyer can hover at about 98 feet and can reach speeds of 22 mph. Only one model with a 250 HP engine will be available initially. All metals used will be made of either stainless steel or hard coat anodized aluminum with Teflon coating to protect it against corrosion and abrasion.
