The ADuM1250W hot swappable, dual I2C digital isolator from Analog Devices is said to be the industry’s first automotive grade products to provide true bi-directional isolation for the lower cost I2C serial bus. By directly isolating bi-directional data it eliminates the need to split transmit and receive signals into separate channels and reduces component count in electric and hybrid-electric vehicles. Based on ADI’s proprietary iCoupler digital isolation technology, the part reduces board space by as much as 80 percent and also reduces the system cost associated with isolating I2C buses. This is accomplished by eliminating optocouplers and support circuitry previously required in isolated I2C interfaces.
The ADuM1250W is the industry’s first I2C digital isolator to carry an AEC-Q100 qualified –40°C to +125°C automotive temperature rating and is based on the ADuM125x family of I2C isolators that have been in volume production for over three years in a wide range of industrial, instrumentation, networking and other applications.
