How important is sustainable manufacturing?

I read a recent benchmarking report from the Aberdeen Group about sustainable production/manufacturing and what's driving companies to take a closer look at gaining efficiencies in the mfg. process. And last week, Berkeley National Lab & ISMI released a benchmarking tool for semi fabs to help them benchmark and improve their energy and water efficiencies.(http://www.electronicsadvocate.com/2009/11/11/benchmarking-tool-helps-semi-fabs-meet-sustainable-manufacturing-goals/)

Is sustainable mfg. becoming a bigger issue at your companies? How is it impacting engineers (in design, production, mfg., etc)? Any feedback would be welcome.

Now green and energy saving is a very popular topic of the world. To catch such goal, sustainable manufacturing is a key point, for a company, build a sustaible scheme is the first task. when design such a sustaible schem, many factors ( process, materials, equipments,human resource,etc)should be considered .
and anyway, such a sustaible manufacturing is also another good technology and the cost can not be negatived.
