Internet of Trees is one of the nine startups taking part in Startupbootcamp IoT 2017. A Honduras-based Forest Monitoring Solution that uses remote modules and IoT technology to facilitate rapid response to forest fires and illegal logging, Internet of Trees joined Startupbootcamp IoT to develop their product and connect with potential investors as they prepare to launch onto the global market.
We recently caught up with Internet of Trees co-founder Goering Coffey to discuss his experiences during the first weeks of the program, and how they've influenced Internet of Trees' business strategy going forward...
The journey so far...
"Validation, validation, validation" says Goering, when asked about how his experiences at Startupbootcamp IoT so far have affected the Internet of Trees business model. "We've been working with various partners and mentors to validate our plan, what we want to do, how much the customer is willing to pay for our product and much more."
This process is helping Goering and his team to develop a better product, and one that he believes will ultimately help Internet of Trees to reach the market much faster. There have also been some key physical changes to the product. Most significantly, the modules will be smaller in size, with all components attached to a single PCB. This represents a significant challenge, not only from a technical perspective but also in terms of the way the product will be packaged and sold on.
Looking ahead...
As the Startupbootcamp IoT program passes the midway point, Goering and his team are looking towards further clarifying their business model and developing a complete understanding of the manufacturing process. Key questions include how long the product will take to develop, the time required to get the product into the hands of the end user and more.
On 28th January, Internet of Trees will join the other participants of the program in pitching their product in front of a room full of potential investors, partners and associated press at the Startupbootcamp IoT 'Demo Day'. "It's been an amazing experience so far, with opportunities to interact with a wide range of partners and mentors. Now our priority is to develop a bulletproof MVP" explains Goering.
We'll be continuing to check in with Internet of Trees and the other Startupbootcamp participants over the coming weeks, so keep checking this space for more updates. You can also learn more about Internet of Trees on their official website and on the Startupbootcamp website.
