Advice needed.

malus_lupus
malus_lupus over 8 years ago

I been struggling with a question since I was in 3rd grade what do I want to be when I grow up and at age 28 I finally figured it out like a few months back. I want to be an inventor. One issue I am a poor boy from a poor family and I do not mean temporarily poor I am disabled so 700 a month (actually more like 70 since most go to bills) is my budget currently. I was curious as to what do you recommend for a person who wishes to invent or reinvent pretty much everything.
Mostly tools and such.

My skills are 3D graphics artist for 10 years.
Auto mechanic skills
Web designer/developer skills (not full on have yet to learn java script)
of course electronics repair.

My weakness is coding which is bad.

Now I of course cannot go into details of what I want to invent til I patent them and there are some pro bono patent lawyers actually around here dunno if I can trust them but what else is there.
I plan to save up over time to get tools and such but my general idea is a bit short I feel. That is where you come in what are some good broad range tools as in cnc and such but cheap-ish and what is a good set of tools to start off with.

So far the list I have to get is.

3D printer.
Welder.

plasma cutter.

cnc machine.

(thought about laser cutter. I have several tools at my disposal as is including electrical stuff as stated I repair electronics for funsies.)

Yeah that is all I can think of currently. Will take years to save up for much of that. Also got to build a work shed and such my bedroom is kinda crowded (yes it is my current garage per se).

I am aware I need to learn a great deal as well but me and books do not get along I get too anxious while reading and feel like I have to do something else audiobooks and youtube I can deal with. Any advice on learning and such will help as well. I watch many channels AVE, eevblog, and ben heck to name a few. If I am missing other questions and such toss me the answer or some help.

I know how people say if you an inventor why patent and cash in. Well money makes the world go around and I am tired of living on a razors edge of almost being homeless. I decided why not do something I love doing, tried being a 3D artist but no one here (in my state) really wants that and then I thought about other things and inventing is another thing I love. I know inventor is on par with 3D artist but it does not require waiting for a response per se you invent, patent, and sale the latter may require a wait for response but while wait I can keep inventing. 3D art is not welcomed much in my state as is, my state is more mechanics and big rigs state. Though 3D art will be handy for a lot of what I do.

Sorry for my amazing rambling skills and remarkably bad grammar. I swear I am smart my grammar may say otherwise but my brain runs really fast and it is hard to keep up with. I may be missing tenses and such that happens far too often and I have no clue why pretty sure being taught to always write in present tense for essays  made that happen.
Thanks for any help and do not worry about answering this swiftly I am in no hurry right now

(also this thing glitches out on me randomly putting extra space in, and also randomly moving the place I am writing sometimes... may be the autosave)

PS: this may be in the wrong place if so I do apologize but I have no frigging clue where to put this since it is so broad and varied.

Hi Malus, I am not sure if a person can learn to be an inventor. Inventors are people who see a "Need" and then make an answer to the need. If you are in the habit of making modifications to the things…

Hi Malus, I guess the first question is how disabled are you? What can you do without assistance? Sounds like you can run a computer OK. Then you also claim automotive and electronic skills. Both of those…

malus_lupus. Good to know you did not leave us hanging bud. Welcome back.

One word of advice...."Never, ever give up on anything you strongly believe in, even if things looks very gloomy and it seems like you will never reach your goal.

Just keep on trying, you might never know how close you are in achieving your objective. So Never Ever Quit!!!!

As far as your question regarding advice needed, take heed of the great guidelines and direction already posted on here by all our great colleagues with years

of practical experience and exposure to all sorts of challenges. Some advice may be good in itself, but not necessarily good for your application. Similarly, others may be not so good, but a perfect

fit for your situation and or application. Because there is no single holistic perfect answer to your question, your solution may be acquired by a collective set of responses from some members of the community on this platform,

Being as it may, you might never get your perfect answer here, but may yourself arrive at the solution by merely processing everyone responses given here and or elsewhere. You are your very best advice to your own question. I guess what I am saying is: only you know best your situation and your capabilities as well as your ideas deep within yourself.

    My suggestion for you is:

    1. Take some time out and go to that favorite place, at that perfect time of day, where and when you get your greatest inspiration and motivation, with a pen and a notepad/book,

and write down all the things/ideas that comes to mind, it need not have to be in a particular order; so doing your will be creating a raw mindmap. This will put most of your deep inner thoughts/ideas

    on paper which may become workable priorities later on in the process;

    2. Keep on doing this as often as you are inspired to do so.

    3, Every time when something comes to mind, go to that piece of paper and go add, modify or even delete, if you have to, to expand on your ideas;

    4. Not for long, you will be sitting with some clear workable ideas that you can move on with immediately and others that might move lower down on the list of priorities. Do not hesitate to make notes

as you go along in the needs like tools, materials and other resources that you obviously may need to make that particular idea a reality; SOON, Hopefully SOON, you will arrive at that expanded list of priority tools and equipment that your need for now and also the ADVICE you are seeking here....

    5. Do not at any moment despair or lose focus of what you what to achieve, keep on repeating this exercise for as many times and as often as you want and or need to.....you will achieve your objectives.

Trust me: If your never write your ideas down somewhere, they will forever be good ideas and never become YOUR good or even great INVENTIONS....

Thinking and doing are two elements when mixed together.....who knows what explosive product might be invented.....So put your great ideas to work and see it turn into something constructive.....

I hope that this will help in addition to all the great inputs already on this platform.

One last thing....ALWAYS come back and share with us what worked for you....you need not expose your pending invention to us unless you want to.....

I wish you well and all the GOOD LUCK in this world my friend...just stay positive and never quit....NEVER QUIT!!!!

IT'S NOT AN OPTION, JUST A BAD CHOICE!!!

    Salute!!!

    Yunus.

I have several dozens of ideas down.

Ranging from impractical but I really really want to make it for my selfish purposes to one that would require like a team of 10 people and then another one that would require a cities approval and help....
in(just look there real quick you see that in it is supposed to go after anyways it but this thing jumped and started writing here I am leaving this one in so you can see it I have had this happen 4 times now. Hard to bloody write with that happening)

My selfish one that I want is funny. Anyways basically CD tray like drawers with LEDs in the drawers. Anyways push a button the drawer rolls out, and an LED turns on in the drawer etc. Now you may think that is awesome etc it is perfectly sellable no it isn't it would be powered by a wall plug, or a battery not very good for selling but it could anyways. I have it perfectly visualized I may start modeling these in 3D.
a junker car (and it done it again anyways this goes at the end of a whole car for)

One idea of mine I need a  whole car for a junker would suffice (I however live in the city so having that in the yard is against the rules).
ive (I can give snippets does not go here)

I can g(it goes here) I can give snippets that should not give away the inventions.
at would require a team (good freaking grief it did it again)

The one that would require a team is a smart stove and I would love to see that puppy come to life.
a super freeze or co(it did it again)

I have an idea for a super freeze kinda thing the opposite of a microwave.
e pla(again it did it again I am leaving these in here just so you can see how terrible it is to write on this for me)

Also the place I think of these best well they usually either while on the toilet, in the tub or while sleeping (I think while I am asleep instead of dreaming I wake up to solutions to problems I never had)
oes all the time (it did it again)

I apologize for leaving the jumps in that this thing does all the time but I want you to see how annoying it is and what it is like. I did cut the first few out but it just kept doing it so I decided to leave the rest in so you can see the mess it makes while typing.

(I feel like leaving these in may also help someone find a way to fix it so they can see how it jumps etc)

    Hi Malus,

Try typing up your response in MS-word or notebook then cut and paste to the forum. I've had to do that on other forums.

I also have a hard time using a laptop with the mouse pad, My ham-fisted hands tend to touch the pad while typing. (I would turn it off and plug in a separate mouse)

I am actually using a pc with a wireless mouse that is the thing I do not have a clue what could be doing it. I even took my mouse apart and cleaned it. It runs like new but no difference.

I have done some calculations and for a few inventions here are the prices.

    Invention 1. 10k

    Invention 2. 75k

Invention 3. 20k (and probably a team of at least 5 people. Though plausible to do alone)

    invention 4. 5k

(there are more ideas but this is just for the general gist)

    This is for decent prototypes.

    Yeah I do dream big.

... a thought on Mr. Lupus' focus on patents:

If you don't have the budget to survive a lawsuit to defend the patent,  it doesn't make sense to pay the costs to register it.

A patent doesn't stop others from copying your ideas.

Only you bringing them to court and having enough money to complete that process does.

    Hi Justin,

    I wish you luck.

Since I was disabled, I have re-engineered the universe and found a solution for Einstein's unified field theory.  All while in constant pain and pain induced ADD, so if I can succeed, then you can as well.

You need to find good people to help you do the things you are not good at, luckily I had a very good friend who stepped in and did the math to prove that my ideas would work and we have built up new models for the universe, stars and atoms.

Just a word of warning, you are probably not going to get rich being an inventor.

No matter what you come up with, others will copy it quickly and you are left with an expensive legal battle to get compensation.

That is why I just released my ideas in a book so that others can build on what I have seen.

So go straight for crowd funding with a fancy video. I know this sounds scammy but thought about doing that with patent pending under it to sorta make people think twice.

So somewhat crowd funding and just go for it then and hope it works. Anyways I do not wish to be rich, I wish to live comfortably if that makes sense. I know this will not get me there it will only help. I am also a 3D artist sorta and hope those skills will get me somewhere albeit I live in the wrong state to have that as a major skill set lol. Leave it to me to learn the one skill set my state doesn't want or need I am good at screwing myself over.

My end goal is simple honestly. I want a comfortable life, not rich just a nice house, and a boring mundane life. At home business of course if I can, that is it. Most of my life has been drama, hellish annoying bull crap all the time and I just want to live the next half ish of my life in somewhat comfort. I am a complex person yet I yearn for something so simple. Being disabled and making 700 a month makes the latter so hard.

I admit if I was rich I would be happy but I would not go crazy and buy everything under the sun. I do not need a mansion etc. I have my main goal quite well placed. Just need a damn compass and a start lol. I feel like I been grasping at air for the past few years after my divorced made my world crash down. Starting over sucks lol. Albeit I am not allowed to drive so figuring out a way around that is going to be fun as well. Being disabled limits you so much. I have one of those invisible disabilities that no one would believe I was disabled if I told them.

I wish I had a friend buuut due to circumstances my best friend of 18 years is no longer my friend. I have nothing much beyond a few family members and my kid. None of those really can help in this scenario my skills are beyond them at this point.
