Despite the thousands of development boards that have shipped and the overwhelming interest from the market for the i.MX RT1170 crossover MCU, I do come across an occasional customer that does not understand the value. They say they do not need the performance or integration or security that the i.MX RT1170 MCU family offers. More often than not though, they simply do not understand how these features could work for them in their applications.
Take, for example, applications in the IoT space, many are already reaping the benefits that come with combining the performance and unique feature set available with the i.MX RT1170 MCU family. Smart home applications like thermostats and home appliances, are using the on-chip MIPI interfaces and graphics accelerators on the i.MX RT1170 to create more sophisticated UIs for consumers. Audio customers are using features like the HS USB for high-quality audio and taking advantage of the USB audio class enablement that is in NXP’s MCUXpresso Software and Tools for designing products like audio interfaces, mixers, and voice processors. Point-of-sale applications leverage the PCI pre-certification with dedicated tamper pins, drone applications take advantage of CAN-FD for motor control, and smart signage applications also benefit from MIPI interfaces and graphic accelerators.
What do all of these applications have in common? Regardless of the features set, they are also each taking advantage of the high performance to add new software features, improve response time, and/or run computationally-intensive algorithms quickly and efficiently.
The i.MX RT1170 actually includes 5 configurations, offering various levels of performance and integration, so that customers can choose the specific configuration that is best-suited for their particular application
