Oscillators in a modern circuit - are Crystals still the most accurate way of timing?
Oscillators in a modern circuit - are Crystals still the most accurate way of timing?
My first posting on this (abeit ancient) thread.
If cost is an issue, use crystals. If time to market, oscillators. If both (wince) I would go with a crystal circuit.
Note: this does not apply to chips that appear to give you a choice between crystals and oscillators. Be sure you read the data-sheets thoroughly

Well I agree...if cost matters do select the xtal..
It is always better to read the data sheet thoroghly before chossing either..
I have notices that In cases, oscillator are better than xtal where timing is crucial eg. if you are using 10/100Mb network phy use..XTAL as input clock source..but if using 1Gb network phy I would suggest to use oscillator..
If you are intended to desing more robust system use " Oscillator "..
Also if you are designing some server type application I would suggest Oscillator
