Former Member
Former Member over 15 years ago

Hi,

I am designing a USB to JTAG convertor for one of my application and wants to evaluate possible solution available. Are there any application notes/Reference designs available?

I have to interface a CPLD based Dev board with a USB Programmer/Debugger.

Regards,

Raashid

Look at anything based on FDTI chips.

I've used FT2232 and UrJTAG with success.

    Might be helpful.

Xilinx In-System Programming Using an Embedded Microcontroller:

Now all you need is a microcontroller with USB!

    Hi Raashid.

I can recommend using the FT2232 chip from FTDI for JTAG communication. It is very easy to use together with OpenOCD (for ARM programming and debugging) and together with urJTAG for CPLD and FPGA programming etc.

I've currently made my own JTAG adapter using that chip, and it is working very well. You can read more about it and see a video here: http://blog.tkjelectronics.dk/2010/12/unijtag/

I will be posting a short guide how to use it with OpenOCD and urJTAG soon.

Edit: Btw. I just noticed that it's a pretty old thread I started digging in image

    Best Regards

    Thomas Jespersen
