We’ve been trying to beat computers and robots in competitions for some time now. Remember the 90’s when Deep Blue beat world champion Garry Kasparov by two games in a chess match, to which he claimed IBM cheated and then the company dismantled Blue quickly afterword? Well we humans have had our revenge……..through bowling. That’s right Chris Barnes, a professional bowler, beat the servos of this robot. Named E.A.R.L.(Enhanced Automated Robotic Launcher), the robot was designed by the Equipment Specifications and Certifications team at the United States Bowling Congress to simulate every bowling style with an accuracy unmatched by any human bowlers. Named after bowling great Earl Anthony, the robot has unparalleled precision with ball control as to duplicate shot after shot with speeds of up to 24mph and a spin rate of up to 900rpm’s. EARL was developed to set official rules and standards of the Usbc and to help with lane and pin design. So what was the final score between Barnes and EARL? 259 to 209. Take that Robot!
