People at one time or another have been the victim of identity theft. It can cause absolute catastrophe and damage that takes forever to fix, and for the perpetrator usually nets them some lengthy prison time as it is a felony. However for the purposes of curiosity it’s always fun to make new and interesting things especially with Arduino. A person known as ‘sketchsk3tch’ has designed a magstripe emulator using Arduino that emulates and modifies any stripe data that you want. Using enamel covered copper wire tightly wound over a ferrous metal shim, which acts as an electro magnate; he then connected both ends of the wire to an Arduino. In order to use the magstripe you need to have a code flashed to the Arduino itself, most codes used on magstripes use Biphase Mark Code to encode the data. You can use this make-shift reader to see what’s stored on various cards and in turn modify its data. For a video demonstration go here: http://www.instructables.com/id/Arduino-Magstripe-Emulator/
