Qualcomm’s Snapdragon has always been a fast chipset for those of us who use Android based phones and earlier today the company showed analysts their new SoC roadmap revealing a new 28nm dual-core processor. The MSM8960 will feature two new processor cores that will have 5 times the performance of the original Snapdragon, which right now runs at 1GHz, with a reduction in power consumption of 75% compared to today’s processor. That translates into more time in app usage and gaming breaks boys and girls! However QUALCOMM does not state if it’s for idle time or actual use time. Qualcomm also states that there will be an increase of 4x on the GPU side as well with the Adreno 3xx series chip, used in today’s XBOX 360 and PS3. There is also support for all 3G modes as well as LTE. With sampling slated for 2011 we can expect to see smartphones with this technology around 2012 if the planet isn’t destroyed yet.
