An 8051 is a rather old processor. You could try to interface a GSM Module to it but you will probably be better off with something newer.

I didn't use 8051 to control GSM, I use the arduino to control it.
But I think it's the same theory. I use the Serial COM to comunicate with SIM900 module.
you should know these AT commend. you can google (SIM900 AT commend manual).
