support request (willing to purchase)

Dear Friends,

Happy Holidays to one and all.  Tis better to be a cathode than an anode!  But when it comes to monopole magnets,  I am still on the fence and am unable to choose betwixt 'N' or 'S'!

In my further pursuit on uC secrets, I have purchased a copy of

Myke Predko's big book from 2002:  Programming & Customizing PICmicro Microcontrollers

Unfortunately, it did not include the CDRom Disk with all the files on it or the circuit board.  If I may be so bold as to inquire if anyone has one or both that is no longer needed, I would welcome any donations.  Don't intend anyone to expend any large sums on this as the new book can be had at Amazon for $15.00.  Thanks for you considerations.  I have discovered that some 'new' book are sans CDR.

P.S.  FYI for others who are working from old dusty technology books:  If you cannot find a web page that has become inactive or no longer supported by the publisher; check the Internet Archive: Wayback Machine for the pages you are trying to find.

Sorry - can't help you with the CD but my curiosity has got the better of me. Why are you working from a 12 year old book - there is loads of up to date PIC information for free on the web, starting with Microchip's own stuff which is quite good. Fo what it's worth - Predko's book got some really stinky reviews for being unclear so if you are struggling at all try looking at other sources.

I agree that Microchip's support and documentation are excellent.  It is a simply matter of choice and personal preference that I am willing to explore Myke Predko's offering.

I find it interesting that you say Microchip's support and documentation are excellent.  I have been forced to use Microchip a few times and it has always been a tedious job. I find they have less than perfect documentation and their FAEs will lead you to a PDF that you have already read and that provided no help (they themselves have no real answers). When I talk to distributors (Avnet, Future, etc.) they tell me the horror stories of Microchip. Yes its true to get started Microchip looks attractive and that is how they get users in, but once you get in the thick of it, things start to fall apart but by then its too late to turn around.  After my past experiences and my current one (have to use it at work) I will never elect to use Microchip.

I currently choose TI whenever possible due to their helpful documentation, helpful FAEs and easy to use uC.

Anyhow good luck with Microchip I sincerely hope you have better luck than I and those around me have had.

Initially, I also found it difficult to navigate Microchip's site.  But the last few times I went there to find what I needed, it worked out for me.  I am not at an advanced level like many here on element14 so you will have to take my opinions, such as they are, with a grain of skepticism.

I only quickly scanned this page, but might it have what you are looking for ???

    Programming and Customizing PICmicroRegistered Microcontrollers

Also try contacting Myke directly, perhaps he can help you out, since you did buy the book.

I have finally got my hands on the CD ROM for Myke Predko's really big book of PIC micros.  Just when I am seriously starting a study of ARM Cortex M4, too.
