Microcontroller and ARM SBC choice / average production cost if designed

amrrahmy
amrrahmy over 8 years ago

I would like to know the average production cost for the following,

1- microcontroller to control

     - wifi module(esp8266)

     - 5v relay(5v controlling 220v)

     - I2C

2- ARM(armv6/v7/v8) SBC

     - wifi or optionally (wifi + bluetooth 4)

     - I2C

     - GSM (3G TCP/UDP)

     - RS485

     - RS232

Thank you,

Check out ESP-WROOM-32 or ESP32. Might just need an opto-isolated relay and a power supply....(and some software)

amrrahmy I would agree with dougw , for #1 look at the ESP-WROOM-32 or ESP32. and for #2 Look at one of the RaspberryPi SBC boards perhaps.

Your question can't be answered without you providing a lot more detail - like how many would be a start.

You can do some searching (Google will help) for similar boards or products containing similar boards and see how much they cost to get a feel for the price levels.

Or you can pay someone to do the work for you, but they will start by asking you to answer lots of questions to pin down the specification.

What is it that you would like to achieve with this, what is the objective.

Like michaelkellett says, please provide a lot more detail, perhaps there is an easier and or cheaper way to

    address your needs.

    Yunus.

The choice of microcontroller is more important than cost. Planning to make a prototype using dev boards.

Saw #1 from $5 to maybe $10-$12 but would like a choice to program the microcontroller as it needs to implement some type of security authentication.

I think an arm m0+ would be overkill and not sure if something like attiny85 or similar is decent enough for wifi communication plus some type of security validation check.

    For #2

Dont know what sbc boards come with rs232 and rs485(modbus) or what modules/dev modules are popular for them

    - Want to the sbc to connect to a server(sometype of security validation) , implement a tcp or udp protocol, connect to a wifi network, and control multiple wifi relays through the wifi network connection

    - Want the wifi relay to take commands from the sbc, validate a public key or token, activate one relay.
