How about those ones that work by the magnetic field distorting a tube, the tube has say 1000 teeth on its outer & the stator has say 1001 teeth on its inner. Thus it works a bit like a vernier & you get very high resolution. Used these once on a magnetic field measuring rig.

It was a very long time ago that I was working on that project, I can't remember who made the motor. I had a quick look on the web but could find nothing. I found there there are some motors with a gearbox based on the harmonic drive principle. These gearboxes work in a similar way to the motors I was talking about. They have no backlast and fine stepping capabilities. It depends what you want it for? I guess if you call around the stepper/servo companies you'll find it.
