Tell us the time you had the most fun on a project.
For me, it was when I worked on a new, all electronic, paintball gun a few years ago. During development, I had to play paintball on a regular basis. The company wanted me to experience the game, to know exactly how I would want the gun to operate on the field. I would say, it helped me realize that functional simplicity is most important.
The thought of using the gun, I was designing, in a real game, kept me motivated to make it happen. I willfully spent long hours working on the electronics, coding, and troubleshooting. I even machined most of the components for the prototypes. I had the gun exactly how I would want it to be. Finally, I was able to test the prototype at a local paintball field. It performed spectacularly. The gun was intimidating to my opponents, an intentional product design on my part. I made some final tweaks, and the project was finished, but shelved.
Although the gun never made it to the market, it was the most fun I ever had on a project. I do hope my design does get released, I would love to use it again.
