How do you monitor the power conversion from AC to DC in applications such as Solar Micro Inverters?

It's a key challenge to monitor and accurately control the power conversion from AC to DC in applications such as solar micro inverters because of safety and reliability in high voltage applications.
 
Actually, as you are dealing with very high, hence dangerous voltages it is  critical to be able to control any ramp up and ramp down and the voltage  range. it's also important to be able to monitor that effectively so you can detect  any issue and shut down in case of any issue to avoid a major incident. That's the case of high voltage power supplies

    Mab, you should consider the Freescale MC56F825x and MC56F824x family of products which are perfectly suited for your needs.

     

    The MC56F825x / MC56F824x is a member of the 56800E core-based  family of digital signal controllers (DSCs). It combines, on a single  chip, DSP processing power and microcontroller functionality with a  flexible set of peripherals. Because of its low cost, configuration flexibility, and  compact program code, it is a perfect fit for power conversion and motor  control applications, making it also well-suited for many other  consumer and industrial applications.

     

    Some features are:

     

    • 60MHz DSP Core enables fast efficient processing of complex algorithms needed in this type of application. Compare with an MCU that would typically need 2 or 3 cycles to complete these complex algorithms the DSP core can do it in a single cycle.
    • 64KB of Flash program memory provides capability to develop small, cost effective single chip solution
    • 16bit Ultra-High-Resolution (running up to 1GH Frequency) PWM integrate enables you to control very accurately at very high frequencies control the ramp and ramp down of the power levels.
    • 2 x Ultra-High-Speed 12bit ADC with 500ns Conversion.  Typical in applications is the need to be able to have a very accurate closed loop feedback system of the voltage ramp up/ramp down that the PWM is generation. The ultra-high-speed conversion of the ADC signals enables that fast closed loop monitoring so that the application can be monitored to improve safety and reliability of system.
