Bluetooth module recommendations?

fustini

Howdy,

I recently realized bluetooth headphones would be pretty useful, but I haven't liked the design of any I've seen so far.  This got me thinking why not just build a bluetooth "receiver" which would pair to my phone (or other device with content) and have a headphone jack for output.  This way I can keep using my existing headphones which I like but not have to be physically connected to the device playing the content.

However, the only bluetooth experience I have is with SparkFun's BlueSMiRF modules as simple transparent serial links.

Anyone have any recommendations for Bluetooth modules that could be used to receive audio?

Cheers,

Drew

This belongs in the Knode section for sure.

These must be some fantastic headphones. Do they make a Bluetooth version already? (This would side-step the issue)

What you are looking for is a Bluetooth receiver. See the Miccus BluBridge mini-jack as a starting place.

Bingo - I had thought something like that may exist... maybe I was not looking too hard as I wanted as reason to build it.  Dang you, Amazon image  Well, I doubt I'd be able to do better than $40, and its probably better this way for the health of my existing unfinished projects.

(Oh, re: headphones, well all the bluetooth headphones had goofy behind the ear style or obtrusive headband.  I like plain old non-"in-ear" earbuds)

    Thanks,

    Drew

This makes me think of a common problem with engineers, they want to make everything a project.

"Hey the picture isn't level, I will make a servo controlled automatic picture leveller." The old cliche joke about engineers.

You also have to ask the question, do you really need another project in my life?

Good point.  But a servo-controlled auto picture leveler sounds so cool... image

    Hi Cabe,

You are right about engineers.  I had a software guy who was given the task to find a good code checking software package to do QA on our software.  The next thing I know, he had spent about $20K to build his own "better" package.  After I killed his project I had to explain to him that he could have bought the "Cadillac" code checking software for a fourth of what he spent.  His only excuse was that HIS version would be easier to use!

I had a saying when I went into management.  "Sometimes you have to kill the engineers and just ship the product!"  While I admire someone who wants to make a product better, they do not necessarily understand that we only have to deliver what the requirements call for.  We can then sell enhancements as engineering changes.  You need to think ahead in this business.  If you give your good stuff away free, then you will soon find yourself unemployed.
