Is there any good free AVR compiler other than Codevision AVR ???

i wanted to know if there are any free avr compilers without code size limitations ??? i am a student and i don't have money to buy the full version of CodeVisionAVR and i don't want to download cracked version from any torrent... the free version restricts the code size ..

I haven't done any AVR programming in over a decade so I don't have specific recommendations, but I'm reasonably sure that there are GCC-based free tools out there. If nobody gives direct pointers, I'd start with Wikipedia's Atmel AVR page and follow the links.

Edit: Interesting -- In some contexts, if you "show less", the link turns into normal text, whereas "show more" brings the link back. My HTML must be right on the threshold.

you can find avrstudio 5 and 6 in atmel site for both 8-16 and 32 micro controllers

and sure you can use avrsudio4.18 for as a start point of programing

you should as well have winavr installed on your pc

ps:avrfeaks and atmel site are good sources to find things about mega and xmega controllers
