WiFi on chip Without TcpIp Stack

Hi All,

I am looking for a low power chip which has wifi but without any tcpip stack, is such a solution readily available? I would like to port my own tcpip/custom protocol onto it. Also, can anyone suggest on how to use a low power controller like a microchip and port a wifi stack onto it?

I can only give you a partial answer, or a direction to look at. I know the ESP8266 is a very nice low cost chip with TCPIP stack. But.... The community that tries to support the chip recently made a gcc version for the chip itself (as it's actually not only serialwifi, but a programmable micro with WiFi peripheral), and I don't know how far they got in describing the internals of the chip. Why would you not want a TCP/IP stack, yet want to port your own TCP/IP stack? Is this an academic experiment?
Secondly, as a suggestion, if you have a custom protocol, you can transport it over TCP or UDP.
If you really need a device with no stack, check out the devices intended for integration into PCs, such as this one, it states it has power saving options. You'd probably have to apply for a datasheet from the manufacturer, to know how feasible it is to use with your intended processor.
